The last i had heard was that ybk would have bucket seats all over the stadium. A portion would be financed by ADK officials while the rest would be done by state government. Moreover YBK needs more exits if they are to adhere the standards for hosting fifa u17 wc match let alone the final (which the IFA and AIFF dreams off). So my guess would be that the constructions would be done by wb government. There were some bucket seats which had been removed for hooliganism (sadly) were stored somewhere else. Need to look into it further

  • Are bucket seats gonna be put all over the stadium??
Anyways these galleries need to be renovated properly. I heard somewhere is that broken concrete is lying all over the stadium. Such a shame on WB government that a stadium which could have been made the pride of india is lying to rot like this. Seriously, don't know how this will be renovated properly for WC 2017. Other venues are still good enough.

@coolgagan, we (Indians) are bad in construction, worse in maintenance. This is true not only in sports, but in any spheres of life. So we live with those ruins.

I read in newspapers that the whole gallery will be provided with bucket seats and also luxury seating (lounges) in some parts. And that will bring down the capacity to 90,000 (which is a good thing considering spectator comfort, security and crowd management). Don't know about the finances, though.

i also think that just putting Bucket seats is not enough ,. stands should be re build properly .
  • AGREE. Putting bucket seats is not enough. This does not even look like a proper stadium for god's sake. The tunnels inside stadium all suck. Those leading to galleries are even worse. Shit man. Just pathetic. Needs a reconstruction like JLN had during commonwealth games. When renovated it was top class stadium. Last I heard was that it has also not been maintained. False ceiling is breaking everywhere.  Water leakages are rampant. Seats are broken. All thanks to useless management.

@Deb_Ban: I disagree. Its mostly the government sector that is pathetic in construction. Private sector is good. And talking about the maintenance, its just the stadium has not been utilized properly. Blame it on the bad policies that we have. Everything is just on papers. When it comes to implementing them, EPIC FAIL.   This is seriously the worst football stadium in this year's ISL and probably the weakest contender for WC. Just the history of Kolkata will save it from facing from embarrassment otherwise, FIFA would have clearly axed it.

Yeah I meant the govt sector, as they build most of the stadiums.

How about demolishing YBK and building two smaller football stadiums in its place with natural turf and say 30-40,000 capacity?
