The Salt Lake Stadium needs to be destroyed and replaced with a more modern stadium IMO. It can be done in India but the money issue and a lot of other things block it.

  • I hate its athletic track. Not even useful. No athletic event has ever been held there. Its needs to be demolished and we can have a 50,000 capacity modern stadium with state of art facilities [ Rectangular stadium please]. That should be enough. Or maybe we can have something like transtadia?? But, problem is hooliganism in Kolkata football. Fatorda renovated has been treated so well by people of GOA> Kudos to them. Not possible in Kolkata. given that majority of club supporters are not from so good economic background

@coolgagan South Asian Games were held in 1987 in Calcutta. Athletics event were held in Salt Lake Stadiums.
There is no problem with Athletics Track. Rather it serves as a buffer between spectators, missiles and turf/players. Even Goa Duler ground puts a screen and do not trust their spectators that are too close to the ground. Around the world, World Cup games and UEFA Champions league games have been held in stadiums where athletics track is there.

Venue for 2014-15 UEFA Champions League Finals:

@coolgagan You are mentioning transtadia fraud ha ha ha How is the project doing? It has been 5 years since it started.
By the way, I noticed that you are criticising stadiums of government where actual sports events take place like JLN Delhi, Salt Lake. and where is your transstadia??? or tell ISL bosses to build something if their private sector is so good??? Why are they coming at Salt Lake Stadium or Balewadi or Fatorda or JLN Kochi?

  • @ArsenalFan700 Yes. Over the years, different Olympic Stadiums were modified and used for multipurpose usage like Athletics+Football. Rome, Berlin, Munich comes to my mind. Its not that you have to change the shape from elliptical to rectangular. But yes, Modern clean stadium is required like this Berlin one above.

Ok so ybk to have all 80,000 seats installed before ISL kicks off. Atleast thats the tentative deadline. So no new exits planned it seems

the concrete slab issue is really dangerous also ybk from outside looks shit. need a complete overhaul. plaster is needed in some place, overall the outside should also be painted. also what is the use of buildings ( looks like Residencial) beside ybk ( within the complex) . they looks like horror house.
except stadium issue : there is a transport issue, not frequent enough buses or auto. added advantage two superspeciality hospital nearby ( saltlake amri and columbia asia)

YBK has so much space around it, they could take the old turf out & use it on the SAI ground or any of the other numerous fields around the stadium.

Develop all those fields properly , and you could have a proper Academy set up there.

IFA or AIFF should seriously consider using that entire complex as it would suffice for junior World Cup requirements, 1 grass field and 2 grass training options nearby, also have the Artificial for monsoons..

Yes YBK is a humongous complex (in Indian context) but least utilized. Spread over 75+ acres. Apart from the Hyatt Regency Hotel, there are SAI complex (yes, those horror houses observed by @footydip), Bengal Tennis Asso, Probably A hockey ground, several football training grounds (don't know if part of SAI).

This has the potential to be a super football academy and should be reserved for football only, as in the case of Eden Gardens reserved for Cricket only.
