  • I thought Chennai is their backup plan, any way they can sneak through?

Agree. My pick would be Pune, Kolkata, Goa, Kochi, Bengaluru and Delhi. Mumbai and Guwahati would miss out in my opinion
Pune might also be a bit tough as the Balewadi is outside of Pune and the stadium is not exactly "world-class" is it. Massive changes are going to be needed if Pune is to get a spot.

Kolkata is also tough as I doubt Salt Lake Stadium would fill up at all but it can work. Goa is perfect already. Kochi has a good stadium. Bengaluru and Delhi are also set.

The main stadium should have adjacent practice grounds and the turfs should be of similar nature. YBK and Barasat are too far anyway. The best bet for YBK is to change to a quality grass turf. It can develop the nearby premises as training grounds. I am not sure how far the SAI facility is though.
Forget Barasat. There are space for at least 6 football pitches inside YBK-SAI Complex (SAI is adjacent to YBK). This not taking into consideration the Bengal Tennis Academy courts (6 in number), the Stadium Helipad, Yuva Awas, the hockey field, Hotel Hyatt Regency, etc etc already in the campus.

WB State Govt I think were thinking to change the turf back to natural grass in view of the numerous complaints received by them; as well as to re-install bucket seats and improvement of toilets. This was before the World Cup bid.

^^That is what I said. There was a reports 4/5 months back that YBK turf is gonna change to grass but they are waiting for FIFA panel recommendations I think. Barasat was mentioned by someone, that is why I clarified.

@ArsenalFan700 Too naive that. If there is a world cup in India, they cannot miss Kolkata. And the consideration for filling up the stadium has never been a criteria, Qatar wouldn't have been awarded the world cup otherwise. Plus do not worry about crowd for a quality sports event in Kolkata.
  • Really can't compare Qatar with the u17 world cup that has been awarded to us. We would never be even in a touchable distance with them, their budget, technology, infrastructure, most importantly the passion for football.

?? That's way off! Totally unrelated. You just picked up one word from my comments and said something. The passion for football in Qatar? Try watching a Qatari league match someday

It could be unrelated but your the one who related it to Qatar and besides I did not pick up a word, it was a sentence. You can't just point out one thing and say they don't have passion, in that case we would sit here and doing a distinguish between two countries football history, present and future but I do agree with you that the Qatar Stars League do not bring in enough support.

All I said was can't compare Qatar and I don't see in which way it wasn't related to what you said.

I categorically said that if bringing crowd to a stadium was the criteria for awarding events, Qatar would not have been awarded the World Cup. I did not compare entire Qatar history culture and passion

Yes, you did not compare the history or culture, etc but look at it this way, if bringing the crowd to the stadium had been the criteria, you seriously think that Qatar would not have been awarded the World Cup? Well your wrong, as long as Blatter is the president, Qatar would have got it regardless. See they are even considering moving to a month where it would not be 50 degrees.
