I think our strategy for this match was not to go for win but play for a draw. This backfired. You cannot keep a strong team at bay for full 90 minutes with tired, unfit and technically weak players. Our inexperience at this level also showed: we played with our hearts out in the first two matches which left no stamina reserved for the last.

Wonder what the Analyst and the physio team were doing.

  • And to be frank consti never had any belief in his reserve bench. No one looked like replacing the first 11 from the Thai match. So why he persisted with this bench strength is something I cannot understand. Was there any pressure on him from outside which seemed to be influential enough.

For this new cycle I hope our players get to play atleast good quality pro games in excess of 50 games.

Current calendar of 18 league games and knockout super Cup games will do nothing.

We need minimum 30 league games .
Preseason Durand cup for a month.
    FA cup during season.
    Super Cup post season.
But the pre and post season cups should be based on Tournament model.

We have 20 teams in isl and Il.
Make 4 groups of 5 teams. Single round robin and top 2 go to knock out stage. Current model of knockout from start is not going to help anyone.

    Chhetri's importance is being undermined.

I have no doubt that he is past his prime. However,he is the best striker that we have.

Also, his presence in the dressing room is of utmost importance. When a young player comes into the national team setup, Chhetri being the best Indian player ,will be a benchmark for them, especially the strikers . Chhetri's exposure
and work ethic will be vital in grooming the youngster's.Like ,Sachin Tendulkar did it with the likes of Virat Kohli,Rohit Sharma etc.

With Chhetri's ouster, the role model figure will be absent from the dressing room and in the extreme circumstances, the dressing room could be divided in different camps(specially with the Changing Captain theory).

Chhetri's presence is significantly important in my opinion and he should be in the squad , even if he doesn't play for 4 years(Depending on his fitness) but minimum to minimum for at least 2 years.

He can help nurture our youngster's just like Sachin did and once Chhetri believes that the youngster's are on the right track, then he can call it quits.

  • Consti should have gone for 4-5-1 if he chose to get a draw out of this match. Playing Pronoy, Borges as defensive midfield and Thapa, Narjary and Udanta upfront and Chhetri as a lone striker. We could have controlled the midfield or to think worse have better possession than what we did yesterday causing relentless pressure on the defense.
Another thing India needs to learn is how to slow down a game by passing between your defence. Whenever goalkeeper got the ball he tried to play a long ball to the striker upfront. This doesn't help always and should be your secret weapon and not the only weapon.
    Overall we lost tactically yesterday.

Whats up with the flaky thoughts around Chettri? When he scores we go gaga and when he cant carry us we ask him to retire and make space? Sure he didnt look as lethal as the first match but thats also because the team couldnt support him. Even a  34 year old Chettri is way better than anyone else coming up in ranks. We need to control our thoughts. HE was anything but and eye sore last match, don't let your emotions do the talking. What we genuinely miss is another player of Chettris  quality up front. We must stop relying on Foreign strikers for goals in our domestic leagues.

Do you think lobera would be an excellent NT choice? And have all those foreign league academies in india produced any note worthy kid in their setup ?

Yesterday was one of the saddest day in my life as an Indian football supporter.

Talking about positives- 1) Resignation of SC  2) Encouraging performance by youngsters like Udanta, Thapa  3) Good Fan Support for National Team

What lies in future for us as far as National Team is concerned ?

I support what other members are saying- we need a Badmaash type coach who should not come easily under pressure from AIFF/ISL regarding team selection or not playing Friendlies.

Next set of International matches in 2019 are World cup 2022 and Asian Cup 2023 Qualifiers :

    5th September, 10th September, 10th October, 15th October, 14th November, 19th November.

Next FIFA match dates for Friendlies are
    18-26 March    2 Days
    3-11 June        2 Days

These FIFA windows are the opportunities where we should play a good team and test new players. Lack of experience and playing under pressure cost us Bahrain match. If we waste these days by not playing any International matches so that ISL is not disturbed and come up with some ridiculous excuse that 1) our Ranking will be high if we do not play 2) Better Pot, Better Draw 3) we are planning aginst Palestine but Friendly cancelled due to visa issues. Then nothing will change !!!

Change of coach will not change the Rot and same result will repeat in 2023 too if we do not improve.
Lets hope we get a coach who see Domestic matches and select players who are doing well.

  • Looks like in March India is not going to play friendlies as coach will not be fixed by may.
