    Will the AIFF allow it?
AIFF has to allow it because it is after all a regional league held by IFA. Plus there will be no ileague players playing in the tournament so there can be no objection by AIFF.

There's no question of conflict betwn IFA and AIFF. Its like Jharkhand Premier League which doesnt bother IPL. IFA is anyway an affiliated member. Rather it would be a great trial run for AIFF b4 launching IPL of football!

The Indian Football Association (IFA), governing body of football in West Bengal, launched the Premier League Soccer in Kolkata on Monday. Pitted as football's version of IPL in India, it has got all the correct ingredients required to take football to the very next level.

Conceptualized in the lines of the franchise system originally started in USA in different sports like Baseball, Basketball etc and now used in the IPL, the Premier League Soccer will be a six team tournament in its first season.

The teams will be from six regions of West Bengal - Kolkata, Howrah, Asansol, Burdwan, Midnapore and Siliguri and the bidding process is expected to be completed by August this year.

Each franchiser, with a minimum net worth of 22000 USD, will own a team with the franchisees expected to take care of the development of infrastructure in their respective zones.

Franchisee teams will also be allowed to bid for only a single star or marquee player who will likely be former World Cuppers with names like Edgar Davids and Junichi Inamoto in the fray.

Apart from that every team will be allowed to bid for three more foreigners including one Asian player.

The tournament which will take place from February to May 2012, will also see players from MLS, Brazilian League, K League and the J League during the auction as all these leagues will go for a season break during that time of the year. So players plying their trade in the above mentioned leagues could come on loan in PLS teams.

Each team will be headed by an overseas coach with FIFA/UEFA A License and a proven track record.

PLS will be working as an autonomous and professional body under the license of IFA and will be headed by its Board of Governors.

Another notable about this competition is that every team must take at least one U-21 and a local player from their region which ensures opportunities for youngsters to get into the spotlight.

“This tournament aims at youth development and enhancing of training budding footballers at the district level. Since I-League players are not even allowed to play in the local leagues we are going ahead without considering them,” said IFA General Secretary Mr. Utpal Kumar Ganguli.

All the matches will be played under floodlights and they will be held on a home and away basis with every game being broadcasted by a popular local Bengali news channel. But the concern lies whether proper infrastructure is available in the districts.

Clearing the doubts about infrastructural problems, the IFA General Secretary further added, “The onus will be on each franchisee to make their stadium up to the mark. They will have to install temporary lights for evening matches and also make adequate renovations in the dressing rooms, VIP boxes and media rooms.”

The main promoters for the event are hopeful of reaping profits and also shared that there are already many investors showing interests, “There have been primary talks with many investors and so far the response has been good. We shall soon conduct an auction to allot the teams to the franchises and we shall then take things forward from there,” said Mr Bhaskar Goswami, Executive Director of Celebrity Management Group.

Personally i feel there wont be any improvement in Indian football as long as AIFF is there & I do have a valid reason for that as i have been hearing the same news regarding how they will improve the football in India for decades now. Down with AIFF.
