Brandon played as a deep laying playmaker. He was trying long balls and through balls from the middle, didn't attack the hole. I guess that's what was asked of him.
We may not have won today against a team 45 places below us in fifa rankings but I am pleased with the second half display. We showed positive intent, attacked constantly while still sticking to ground passes. If only we had played like this in the first half and against Bangladesh then we could have ended with 6 points. The performance was really good.
The second half was good and it also shows we haven't entered the first half both the games with intent of scoring that's why we later end up chasing the game
Will we go back to the Wim koevermans era? Though Afghanistan were not attacking aggressively, they were passing better than us whenever they were attacking. On the other hand, most of our players' passing, ball control were not good. Igor, if you want to play passing football, you need to remove some players from this team(who have poor technical qualities, lose ball cheaply) and add players who are technically good, otherwise we just can pass the ball for 90 minutes and create zero chances.
Farukh and doungel played well. Doungel especially tried dribbling and step overs which was good to see. However it was puzzling to see sahal being subbed, that too for manvir. Manvir did not make any positive contribution. Ideally in the later stages udanta should have been subbed for Doungel, and Haldar for Thapa. Thapa would have given our midfield more stability while allowing brandon and sahal to move up in attacking role. But in future matches India should go with a specialised back 4 of Subhashish, Adil, Narender and Kotal (because he really impressed today). Also udanta should be dropped for some matches now. Give someone else a chance on the right wing.
Some age fraud supporters are calling Brandon shit here, while there age fraud udanta was no where to be seen today, Brandon was best Indian player today on pitch followed by Adil Khan in defense.
