Utilising their off day to lend support for a world-cause, Pune FC showed solidarity by making up the numbers that turned up for the ‘Walk for Diabetes’ event conducted by Chellaram Diabetes Institute (CDI).
The annually conducted 5-kilometer walk, held on the eve of World Diabetes Day (November 14), had the sole aim of raising mass awareness on the rising epidemic.
The senior Pune FC squad clad in their red-colored home kit in made their presence felt in what was a first of its kind experience for all including its support staff.
Over 300 people from all walks of life, including non-diabetics participated in the early morning walk that began from the CDI facility in Bavdhan, Pune and lead through the picturesque roads surrounding that location and back to CDI.
While the walk was one aspect of the programme, the Pune FC squad were also apprised on diabetes during a tour of the institute.
Speaking to the participants, Dr. Mashelkar said, “Generating awareness is extremely important in the changing scenario of Diabetes in India. I congratulate Chellaram Diabetes Institute for organising this event. Today, a lot of effort worldwide is going into prevention of Diabetes, not just its treatment. And walking is a very effective preventive medicine… some of my best ideas have come while walking!”
Participants who registered and completed the walk were given gifts and refreshments back at the starting point.
Earlier, the event was flagged off by the world renowned scientist and recipient of SS Bhatnagar Prize, the former Director General of Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR): Padmashri, Padmabhushan Dr. Raghunath A Mashelkar.

for their training facilities they should try get the facilities of bharati vidyapeeth group as well as they possess some good ground facilities which could be used for training grounds as well
It belongs to college so its always difficult to get its 24x7 availability, they have decent training grounds in Pune outskirts(you can see that in video of AFC inspection on their youtube channel). If the are renovating it then really good.
