One eb fan banner reads today
Dori dhore maro taan, sarkar raj khan khan.
Trophy jodi nao pai, cut money khaoa chai.

Actual translation of the sentence is really difficult. Here is the sense.
Let's all pull the sarkar raj down. Cut money is a must even if that costs us trophies (referring to sarkar raj).

Hope Mahmoud Amnah will be with E.B or I-League... Despite his age, he is very good.... Having him in India will benefit our players...

Something remarkable happened in Indian football yesterday. Something that has never happened before, anti-establishment protests in art and song
    ..
    A banner read in Bengali:
    ..
Dori dhore maro tan, sarkar raj khan khan ,
Trophy jodi naao payi , cut-money khaoa chai
    ..
    Which roughly translates to :
    ..
Pull the ropes bring them down,
B’coz whether we win a trophy or not,
    Their pockets will remain round.
    ..
Them = management; Round pockets = commission from player signings, locally knowns as “cut-money”
    ..
The banner is inspired by lines from Oscar winning filmmaker , Satyajit Ray’s, popular Bengali movie “Hirak Raja’r Deshe” (In the land of King Hirak, 1969). The movie plots around an evil king, whose reign eventually ends with a rebellion from those he oppressed. You get the implicit relevance.
    ..
“The banner is a manifestation of 15 years of mismanagement” says a member.
Of the handful that is attending the game today, there is strength in solidarity. Solidarity against an apparently corrupt-establishment, but also, solidarity for progress, even if it means a corporate takeover.
    ..
Ray’s movies have an uncanny tendency to represent facts with fiction, and to me, tweaking and using some of the most powerful lines written in Bengali literature, has left it’s mark in the history of football in this country. The pen is mightier , not the keyboard, not the sword. The fans had the last word or did they ?
    ..
There’s a saying in Bengali which roughly translates to “ the miscreant reveals himself in the attempt to cover himself”
    ..
Hence, around the 40th minute , an initial set of police folk troop in, to force the Ultras and other members to untie the banner. The Power of the People prevailed, which has, for most revolutions of different relative scales throughout time and space; today is no different. Some of the cops succumb to the fact that they’d been sent by the club management to untie the banner. They even go to the length to admit that they themselves are East Bengal fans, and they would not like to harm us , but they were here as directed.
    ..
In the meantime Dudu puts another one in , its 3-0 now to East Bengal. Wins are a temporary fix, the anti-establishment chanting and pro-development chants intensify. There’s nothing more harmlessly intimidating than angry bengali’s hallucinating on football and united against corruption. The cops are forced to leave, the terrace erupts in sarcastic cheers, as the anti establishment chanting continues.

A few minutes later , the cops are back with thrice their number , this time led by a high ranking police official. The police official, who is in civilian attire, even goes to extent of threatening to match each member of the crowd with a RAF police (Rapid Action force) to suppress and remove the banner. Such crass comments spark more outrage, some fans now don’t even care if they are locked up or beaten. Rightly so. Remember, these are football fans who are being treated and spoken to like criminals or rioters. You can jail a revolutionary, but you cant jail the revolution, can you?

The longer the banner andclearer the messages, closer is the step towards the promised mentality. After all, terrace mentality is all about invoking change not just in our minds but also in the minds of the new , the oblivious and the guilty. Ale !
