Was Oman very good? Certainly not. No way they come closer to Australlia or Korea whom we faced In Asia cup. The Oman players too make a lot of mistakes in their defence. But we didnt have anyone to capitalize. They didnt do anything extraordinary to tear up our defence. But our men failed to defend regulation crosses or minus inside the box. Are we so bad? No. We can play far better than this.
First, we have much better players available to us but not even called up. There is no logic why Mehtab Hossain should play only 2-3 matches for national team in last 5 years. Why Sanju Pradhan, Lal Kamal Bhowmick will not be considered for the camp? On the other hand Sameer Naik, Anthony Perreira continued depite their pathetic performance in SAFF.
Secondly, Injuries of Jeje, Sunil, Nirmal and Ralte have weakened the team to great extent. First three were regulars in SAFF. And, everyone knows what potential Ralte has.
Thirdly, Savio was quite visionless while fielding the team. Raju Gaikowad and Arnab Mondal are two best defenders in the country. He should have used the match to get the combination right. Specially , Raju needs some match practice as he is coming back afteer several months. Why Vasum was totally ignored when he had the opportunity to make more substitution? If he was interested in experiment there was no need of bringing in proven players like Nabi or Gourmangi.
Fourthly, Non-availibility of Subrata Paul is a great problem. His presence (of course if he keeps his head cool) make the scorline respectable doesnt matter how his team-mates do. With out him we would have lost Against Australia or South Korea by 12-0 or 15-1.
Fitness level is very poor for most of the players (yes, even youngsters like Jewel). It is the only reason our players look clumsy with ball, take time to control it and allow opposition to close in. Without being peak of fitness one player cant keep his balance necessary to demonstrate his potential for 90 minutes. I will suggest you to see our Hockey team which is playing Olympic qualifiers. The Australian coach and the physical trainers have totally chnaged the fitness level of the team. You will be surprised to see the pace the Indian hockey players are playing with. Even our most fit player Nabi is no match to the thundering run of S V Sunil in the flank. Now, it is too late. But atleast arrange a good physical trainer from South Africa or Australia. Except few seniors, core of India team are U25 players. Their performance can be raised by 40% by improving their fitness level. Strategy, team work etc come next.

That is one of our many problems here in Indian Football. The AIFF and I-League owners (well most of the I-League owners) think that a football squad consists of 11 starters, 7 subs, 1,000,000 old reserve players and a head coach and assistant. That is it. You have so many other positions as well.
Right now from 2012-13 onwards the AIFF should make this mandatory:
The I-League clubs should have a...
- Manager (Coach)
- Assistant Manager
- First Team Coach
- State League Coach (Have all state league matches be coached by this coach, makes it easier for the Manager to scout potential youth players)
- Youth Team coach
- Goalkeeping coach
- Fitness coach
- Physiotherapist
- Assistant physiotherapists
- Club doctor
- Kit Manager (in charge of who the jersey is made by [Nike, Adidas etc] and what the design is)
- Chief Scout (scouts youth players around India and International when told)
- Head of youth development (in charge of how the money given towards the youth teams are used).
The India national team should use...
- Head Coach
- Assistant Coach (should be 2)
- Goalkeeping Coach
- Fitness Coach
- Team Doctor
It's too late for the coming tournament. I hope they will bring qualified physical trainer for the u22 team. I think we need a pannel of selectors too for senior team. Frustrated after seeing Anwar Ali, Anthony Perreira and Sameer Naik. On the other hand Mehtab or Sanju Pradhan are not even considered for camps.
For I -league teams AIFF should make it mandatory to keep at least some of the posts you have already mentioned.

For the Under-22 team Sanju Pradhan should have been selected as he is 22 himself. In terms of coaches...
- Head Coach (Please be Colin Toal)
- Assistant Coach
- Goalkeeping Coach
- Physiotherapists (3 of these)
- Fitness coach
I also hope that the AIFF ask Rajan Chowdhury who is the Pune FC Academy Director to come in and help out because Rajan is very smart when it comes to youth.
which makes me think that we should seriously think of moving to 4-5-1 formation at least for afc challenge cup
Does Savio knows there is such a formation called 4-5-1
All he knows is 4-4-2 and whatever players u got, u need to find 2 central backs, 2 full backs, 2 central medio (who can't move up or down), 2 wingers (who only needs to cross, mostly aimlessly, unless u are playing against SAFF nations), 2 strikers (they mainly need to run around the opposition defenders)
EVeryone in my house gets pissed off because if there is Indian Football match, then there is only 1 person who has the television under control..then after the game i inevitably have to answer 'How many goals have India conceeded? <!-- s:confusion-waiting: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/confusion/waiting.gif" alt=":confusion-waiting:" title="Waiting" /><!-- s:confusion-waiting: --> '..
But i always though this young team has better potential..Lets see in next match (always my attitude & I know that India will loose but my heart always says otherwise)..& yes..whatever u people r saying is correct..but fitness is majorly improved during club football..usually National team do not get much of that chance..& this shows we lack knowledge at all levels (clubs/AIFF/National coach etc)

True about everything. Even I have that TV problem with my Red Bulls as I am the only one interested in MLS in my family I always just sit there wondering how they are doing.
Anyway the coaching staffs among all 14 I-League clubs is messed up. There is no stability and that should be the need of the our at pro club football.
Muscat: Oman enjoyed a confidence-boosting win ahead their crucial 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Thailand by easing to a 5-1 friendly win over India, who are gearing up for their 2012 AFC Challenge Cup campaign.
Oman went one up after just five minutes through Mohammed Al Ghassani before Kuwait-based striker Ismail Al Ajmi doubled their advantage just two minutes later.
Al Ajmi, who plays his club football for AFC Cup 2012 qualifiers Kazma, added a second in the 58th minute and while Dempo striker Joaquim Abranches reduced the deficit in the 64th minute Oman went on to rubber stamp their superiority with two more late goals courtesy of Hassan Rabia (87th) and Abdullah Thuwaini (90th).
Oman face Thailand on February 29 needing to defeat the three-time ASEAN champions and hope that Australia defeat Saudi Arabia on the same day if the Gulf Sultanate are to join the Socceroos in the draw for the fourth round of Asian qualifiers for Brazil 2014, which takes place on March 9 in Kuala Lumpur.
India coach Savio Medeira, meanwhile, has plenty of food for thought ahead of the Bhangra Boys' AFC Challenge Cup campaign which also kicks-off on March 9 when the 2008 champions face beaten finalists Tajikistan at the Dashrath Stadium. <!-- s:angry-screaming: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/angry/screaming.gif" alt=":angry-screaming:" title="Screaming" /><!-- s:angry-screaming: --> <!-- s:angry-screaming: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/angry/screaming.gif" alt=":angry-screaming:" title="Screaming" /><!-- s:angry-screaming: --> <!-- s:angry-screaming: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/angry/screaming.gif" alt=":angry-screaming:" title="Screaming" /><!-- s:angry-screaming: --> <!-- s:angry-screaming: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/angry/screaming.gif" alt=":angry-screaming:" title="Screaming" /><!-- s:angry-screaming: --> <!-- s:angry-screaming: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/angry/screaming.gif" alt=":angry-screaming:" title="Screaming" /><!-- s:angry-screaming: --> <!-- s:angry-screaming: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/angry/screaming.gif" alt=":angry-screaming:" title="Screaming" /><!-- s:angry-screaming: --> <!-- s:angry-screaming: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/angry/screaming.gif" alt=":angry-screaming:" title="Screaming" /><!-- s:angry-screaming: --> <!-- s:angry-screaming: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/angry/screaming.gif" alt=":angry-screaming:" title="Screaming" /><!-- s:angry-screaming: --> <!-- s:angry-screaming: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/angry/screaming.gif" alt=":angry-screaming:" title="Screaming" /><!-- s:angry-screaming: --> <!-- s:angry-screaming: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/angry/screaming.gif" alt=":angry-screaming:" title="Screaming" /><!-- s:angry-screaming: -->
In the first place I don’t understand why Samir Naik and Anwar Ali are selected in the squad. Anwar’s performance in ongoing I-League season has been sh*t poor to put it mildly; while Naik, once used to be a very good defender, seems to have lost more than a couple of yards pace. Arnab Mondal deserves a look in IMO.
Secondly, Savio Medeira’s decision to leave Syed Rahim Nabi out on the bench is another blunder. For God’s sake, why would anyone drop a first team regular who has been the best player for the team in all the recent matches? India’s performance went up by a couple of notches once Nabi was introduced around the hour mark and he was the one who had set up Joaquim Abrahanches for India’s solitary goal of the match within a minute of his introduction.
Thirdly, not selecting Mehtab Hossain in the squad is no less than a crime. Not only because of the fact that he has been the best Indian midfielder for last couple of seasons, but also because of the fact that currently no other Indian player is capable of playing the dual role of a deep-lying playmaker. Mehtab is two-in-one – who has exceptional visionary coupled with creative sense and he is also capable of playing the role of a blocker by shielding our back four. He is indispensable and the sooner Savio realizes this, the better for him and the Indian team.
