I think that India missed players like Ramandeep Singh or Rupinder Pal Singh who has ability to score against mighty Australians. Otherwise it was a disciplined show by Indians in posession Hockey and good Defense. We should have tried to finish the game as this new system of Penalty shootout is not our cup of tea. Penalty Strokes were much better system. Attacker has to come and turn Goalkeeper the wrong way and even then today this Umpire went to Third Umpire which was a wrong decision. In future players will try to get fouled by goalkeepers of they are not in a position to score so as to get second chance.
"NCA's strength and condition coach, Anand Date, helped us with the 'Alter-G' machine," said Iyengar. "In the early stages, we began training at about 60% body weight, gradually increasing the weight until he (Lakra) was running at 100% body weight with optimal running mechanics," said Iyengar. "The physios at NCA, Andrew Leipus and Yogesh Parmar, helped us with the isokinetic testing."
@teji Good article. It also helped that MP Ganesh who is presently CEO of Karnataka Cricket Association was a famous Hockey player of India. He was member and captain of India Hockey team which won medals in 1971, 1973 World Cup as well as 1972 Munich Olympics.
@munna219777 oh i see, that makes sense. I wasn't aware that equipment like this was available for athletes in India. Very kind of BCCI and KCA to help out.
MaryKom needs a lesson on humility and should learn to respect other people. MaryKom gave insulting comments on other Indian Women Boxers saying that nobody is good enough.
She has forgotten that in the same World Championship where she was beaten in Preliminary Rounds, Sonia Lather won Silver Medal. MaryKom was defeated convincingly in two Qualifying events Asian as well as World Championship. Still she is saying it was due to Bad Luck. Other Indian Boxers who progressed further then her and Sonia Lather who won medal is not good enough. Only she is good and now she wants wild card entry into Olympics. Some people just do not understand that nobody is at the top forever in Sports. As one becomes old, it becomes difficult to compete at top level.

Just because of past achievements, one cannot block the way of other boxers. Both Sushil Kumar and MaryKom need to understand this. The trial before Qualifying events between MaryKom and Jangra was shrouded in mystery. Crowd was rooting for Jangra as they thought, she did better. But Boxing federation decided that result will be declared later on from Delhi and they declared MaryKom as winner.
