Finally good sense prevailed on Indian tennis bosses and they went back to age old formula of Indian Tennis success - Grass and Heat. Anand Amritraj managed to convince all Indian players to play on Grass surface and as both Korean players sort of collapsed/dehydrated due to combination of heat and fatigue on first day, India ride through. For last few years, India was playing at Hard Court in places like Bangalore which suited Foreign teams more.
Few months ago I read about Baseball state tournament in India . J&K was part of that . I like Baseball but no idea where I can play . Any idea guys ? In japan there are baseball centers where you put money in a box and get to hit 10 pitches at set speeds .
Can anyone tell me how big is Vijender's win? Just to get a perspective. Also, does anyone think that Vijender is being propped up to give a push to Pro Boxing in the Indian market? What are the chances that he enters the pro boxing and goes on to become Asian champion straightaway. Not improbable though, given his Olympic credentials.
In India, still winning a medal for country in Olympics/Asian/Commonwealth Games is considered a big success. Awareness of Pro-Boxing and different sanctioning bodies such as WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO is not there at that level yet. In Foreign countries, such important fights are shown as Pay-per-view basis on TV. Lets hope that Vijender raises the profile of Pro-Boxing in India and our stadiums/cities can be offered as venues for such title fights. Vijender has definitely improved the confidence of Amateur Boxers in India that there is a life after retirement from Amateur and a good one too. Lets have Devendro Singh fight in Light Flyweight Category.
