@ dev_pfc.. agree, it would be tough for her to reach qualification standard..

But she could stil qualify based on the ranking.. possibility that Olympic Association may also send invititation to India in 400 m. Considering very few able athletes from Asia to compete in 400m..

Hima Das is not at her peak fitness. At her peak fitness and form, the Olympics qualification timing is a Child's play for her(no exaggeration).

However, even at her peak fitness, she is not a medal prospect at 2020 Olympics. She can at most make the Semi-final with her best form and fitness.

In Athletics,at their Peak fitness and form, only  Neeeraj Chopra has an outside chance if winning a medal. For that reason I said, that Hima Das is overrated because their are many other competitors in other Sports who have a much better chance of winning a medal.

Hima Das may have a chance of winning a medal at 2024 Olympics as she is very young and may improve her timings till then to figure among the medals but she has very little chance at the 2020 Olympics unless she improves her timings massively.

Tejaswin Shankar (High JUmp) is another Athlete who is missing all National Camps, National meet and international championship.

This time his excuse is that he is in USA and off-season. To participate in High Jump, AFI required him to come to India and participate in Trial which he refused.

When he skipped Asian Championship, he said that he has an important University Meet which he cant miss.

Women’s World Boxing Championships: Mary Kom through to quarterfinals, Saweety bows out

Six-time champion Mary Kom (51kg) on Tuesday sealed a spot for herself in the quarter-final of the ongoing women’s World Boxing Championships. Mary beat Thailand’s Jitpong Jutamas by a unanimous decision in the pre-quarters after she had received a first-round bye.

Later in the day, Saweety Boora’s (75kg) campaign ended in the pre-quarters with a loss to Welsh second seed Lauren Price. Saweety lost by a split decision (1-3).

Mary dominated much of the bout with her punches being more accurate than her opponent on a consistent basis. The judges’ points at the end stood 29-28, 29-28, 29-28, 30-27, 30-27 in her favour.

The 36-year-old is thus one win away from securing a medal and next faces Colombian Ingrit Valencia. She is the reigning Pan American champion in the flyweight category and had won bronze at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Manju Rani (48kg) is the only Indian pugilist apart from Mary to have managed to reach the quarter-finals of her weight class while Lovlina Burgohain (69kg) and Jamuna Boro (54kg) will have their pre-quarters bouts on Wednesday.

There are 10 different weight categories in World Championships.
In last Olympics, there were only 3 categories for Womens Boxing.
    obviously competition will grow manifold.
Even qualifying for Olympics in Boxing is an arduous task in my opinion - equivalent of winning a Commonwealth or asian games medal !!

In the previous Olympics, there were 10 categories for Men and 3 for Women.

Now, for 2020 Olympics, they have 8 for Men and 5 for Women .

So,out of these 4 medals which we have earned in the ongoing Women's World Championship,2 are in Olympic Categories (Mary and Lovlina) and we won 2 medals in Men's World Championship as well(Amit and Manish) with two more male Boxer's reaching the Quarter-finals. So,it will not be wrong if we expect 3-5 medals at the Olympics in boxing as well because we have already earned 4 medals at World Championship Level with 2 more of our Boxer's reaching Quarter-finals (Kavinder and Sanjeet). So,this means we have 6 possible medal contenders in Boxing if we purely go by the result.(4 medallist and 2 quarter finalist).
