With the resources that the BCCI have, I fail to understand why they've made being a cricketer awfully difficult in India. For a country like India with so much cricket exclusive infrastructure, having just 8 IPL teams is sad.
There should be atleast 3-4 tiers of teams with relegation-promotion like in football. Maybe 1 team per stadium. Just 56 Indians play in IPL first XI. That's way too small!
The likes of Trivandrum, Vizag, Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Pune, Cuttack, Guwahati, Ranchi, Dharamshala, Nagpur, Navi Mumbai all has to have teams. Just start 2nd division with promotion to IPL.
Rest of the season is filled with Other Competitions which also have good amount of money. Too much of anything is not good and they know it. States should start Premier Leagues just like TNPL and KPL. KCA had a plan to do this and I dont know where it went.
Cricket (with its promise of better
financial rewards and glamour) was slowly replacing hockey in schools
and colleges. And since much of the hockey was now being played on
AstroTurf, Pakistan oddly had just two AstroTurf stadiums, despite the
fact that it was the world’s number one side.
So i think astroturf removed the dominance of india and pakistan from the hockey. the astro turf made the game more speedier. i have never seen hockey played on grass.
