  • Hockey stadiums are unique because they are of smaller size and astro-turf so they are not used for anything else. Also these hiockey grounds are built whenever any event such as National Games is organised.
For Football, if there is no artificial turf, they have to share the facility with everybody-marriage function, books exhibition, election rally, motor rally, athletics and thus ground is not maintained properly. Hopefully with artificial turf, there will be some improvement.

the commentators says that the stadium is expected to be filled for final and more seats could be required so they are planning for screening of match on a giant screen in football stadium close the final stadium..

just shows how the tournament's response is in a city(Ranchi) which was considered not so hockey friendly at initial stages by media

But good crowd came in Mumbai for both HIL and WSH. This shows Mumbai has potential for non-cricket sports. Lets see how much crowd come whenevr I-league return to Mumbai.

mumbai got potential to hold non cricket events too...
at college level football and basketball gets maximum fans as there we get to feel more passion as all players are there but after that due to lack of events where they could continue to support so all they are left is cricket

now it is different people got option too....and mumbai have better chance to have support for hockey, football and basketball for same reason as mentioned above
  • If Basketball can become popular in Mumbai then that would be huge. Especially for the NBA.

Hockey gaining lot of sponsorships. Cairn India became co-sponsor with 7 crore per year X3 years deal.

Hero motocorp has already distanced itself from Mumbai Indians and will focus on Hockey

  • So after seeing that the Aussies won the Women's World Cup for Cricket is it now safe to say that India is not a Cricket Country but that it is a Men's Cricket Country.

India's Women's Cricket team was horrible. Pakistan as well.
  • Hockey India now plans league for women                           After the stupendous success of its inaugural city-based league, Hockey India (HI) is now mulling to start a similar tournament for the women players as well. HI secretary general Narinder Batra said on Friday that the national body was planning a women’s league in two years.

“We are thinking of starting a league for the women players in two years. It will be very unfair if we don’t try to promote women’s hockey. I think it will be as exciting as the men’s tournament,” said Batra.
Batra said HI was planning to have a six-a-side tournament, which is highly popular in Europe.
“I think six-a-side tournament will be the best way. It requires lot of fitness and it is tough as well,” he said.
HI is planning to have the league in Bangalore and will urge the franchise owners of Hockey India League (HIL) to raise women’s teams. “We will talk to them and see if they are interested in running a women’s league parallelly with the men’s tournament,” he said.
National team captain Ritu Rani said having a franchise-based league for the women will only promote the game. The HIL has boosted the men’s game in the country. It will be great to have such a league in women’s hockey too that would motivate us,” she said.

They actually woke up and realized that in India it is not hard to make a successful business if people are actually willing to work together and logically.
