Its high time Michael Knobbs should resign. we lost badly in London Olympics and even now struggle against teams like Ireland. Always same excuse-we are building Team for the future. They have tried to change the playing style in Australian mould-with disastrous results. Just pushing the ball forward for some deflection. Poor passing, trapping, running on and off the ball. Even Penalty Corner have no variation. Some players have good height but very poor skills.

India is supposed to host Junior World cup hockey in December at Delhi. Many of current National Team players will play there. That tournament will decide the future of Indian Hockey.

Indian Womens Hockey team was even more pathetic.

Michael Nobbs is an awesome coach..only problem is the selection of
pathetic players like Sandeep,Dharamvir,Shivender etc..when we went to
Europe tour to practice for this tournament we didnt tke these guys
...then why did we take them to the main tournament??

You are sayng no variation in PC conversion..check out Raghunath's variation goal against Kiwis in this tournament..they were baffled..we need to have physical strength and opportunism something that belgium is showing at the moment..
The bottom line is that the quality of the players is decreasing day by day or other way to say it is that the International cap in hockey is becoming easier and easier to earn.

Physical strength ,speed,etc are secondary.

The factor in which India is lacking is the technical ability or the basics.

Basics include-Ball control,trapping,game sense,awareness etc.

Basics like when to cross, how to cross, where to cross, weight should be on which foot etc.

Unfortunately the players either don't know these things or are not being told.

If you would have seen the match against New Zealand, there Mandeep Singh(Sikh guy 18yrs old)tried to cross a ball while running from the right out(wing position) and in doing so tumbled 4 times on the ground after attempting it.

The thing is he didn't knew on which feet his balanced should be.You can't expect a player who doesn't know this basic to compete against the likes of Australia.

He shouldn't be playing International matches for God sakes. Our defence is non-existent and give the ball easily and specially inside our own D.These are basics which our previous players never did.Earlier we used to lose due to umpiring partiality but not now.We are just not good enough.

The basics of Indian players are missing. You can't blame the coach for it.

Had it been in 2002-2003(When Indian Team had the likes of Gagan Ajit,Deepak thakur,Dhanraj,Prabhjot,Jugraj,Dilip tirkey etc)then you could have blamed the coach becuase these players had excellent Technical Abilities and Knew their basics well.
If u'll see the list u'll find the name of Jugraj Singh written with players having excellent technical abilities(which covers all the parts of their roles).

Eg)If a Forward is said to have technical abilities-It would mean good scorer, game awareness, creator, trapping, etc similarly with defenders and midfielders

That team was raised in Air India Hockey Academy at Delhi by coach Ajay Kumar Bansal. I wonder how many present players are from that Academy.
Womens team is even more pathetic. I remember players like mamta Kharab, Saba Anjum, Preetam Rani siwach. In 2002 Commonwealth Games Gold Medal and upto 2006, our team was very good. Now its a total disaster-girls were struggling to even push/pass the ball.
