The bottom line is that the quality of the players is decreasing day by day or other way to say it is that the International cap in hockey is becoming easier and easier to earn.

Physical strength ,speed,etc are secondary.

The factor in which India is lacking is the technical ability or the basics.

Basics include-Ball control,trapping,game sense,awareness etc.

Basics like when to cross, how to cross, where to cross, weight should be on which foot etc.

Unfortunately the players either don't know these things or are not being told.

If you would have seen the match against New Zealand, there Mandeep Singh(Sikh guy 18yrs old)tried to cross a ball while running from the right out(wing position) and in doing so tumbled 4 times on the ground after attempting it.

The thing is he didn't knew on which feet his balanced should be.You can't expect a player who doesn't know this basic to compete against the likes of Australia.

He shouldn't be playing International matches for God sakes. Our defence is non-existent and give the ball easily and specially inside our own D.These are basics which our previous players never did.Earlier we used to lose due to umpiring partiality but not now.We are just not good enough.

The basics of Indian players are missing. You can't blame the coach for it.

Had it been in 2002-2003(When Indian Team had the likes of Gagan Ajit,Deepak thakur,Dhanraj,Prabhjot,Jugraj,Dilip tirkey etc)then you could have blamed the coach becuase these players had excellent Technical Abilities and Knew their basics well.

Dude you are talking about Mandeep Singh..the find of HIL..he will be a star if he puts on some muscles..his goals in Azlan shah cup were simply scintiilating..the fact that he slipped while crossing does not mean he does not deserve to be in the Indian team..watch outt for this guy if he plays in the Junior World cup
Still hopes alive for India for WC berth, and how

India is yet to score a win in four matches at Rotterdam, still if the
purpose of going there is to qualify for the next year's world cup,
there is hope for India to realise the objective.

After getting smashed by Australia 5-1 -- really a respectable score --
today in the quarterfinal, India is pushed to second rung, that is to
play for 5-8th position. India will meet France first and then if it
wins -- which is a surety -- it will be just a match away from
qualifying for the The Haque.

Because, three teams are to qualify for the next World Cup from
Rotterdam. This is in addition to Hosts of The Hague WC, and other
continental champions.

This way Netherlands automatically qualifies for the WC being the hosts
and then either Australia / New Zealand will be Oceania Champions. Thus,
two out of four semifinalists having booked or will book with time,
other teams to make it to Hague will be next three. Thus, Belgium has
booked and the fifth placed team will also do the same, though the
picture will be clear only after Oceania tournament will be staged.

Therefore, India has to be careful, forget the last week, and
look afresh for the task on hand. Defeating France and then either Spain
or Ireland should not be a problem for India, even what their form so
far at Rotterdam is any indication.

India struck an equalizer four minutes from the hooter to effect a draw
against Ireland, which is tired side now after the QF rout, and then had
a decent second half performance against Netherlands which could not
score in that spell, and then the worst spell was its inability to keep
the 3-2 lead for four more minutes (again another 66th mins goal), but
for that a win was surely with India.

Yes, performance is rusty, but if you forget the score and look on the
performance, there is lot of improvement, the way India backpassed, and
held the ball in many spells against mighty Australia gives hope it will
do better in the second stage of the tournament.

India should here finish fifth, and then look for Asia Cup win. So, the
last word on the WC berth is yet to come.

Ronny-Dude you are talking about Mandeep Singh..the find of HIL..he will be a star if he puts on some muscles..his goals in Azlan shah cup were simply scintiilating..the fact that he slipped while crossing does not mean he does not deserve to be in the Indian team..watch outt for this guy if he plays in the Junior World cup.

Yes Dude i am talking about Mandeep Singh.Scoring a goal doesn't mean you are the best player. If you would have watched the goal which he scored than you must have also watched how S.V Sunil dribbled past one ,used his speed and control to dribble past another and squared the ball to him on the far post for a tap in.No denying that he scored the goal(he has good positioning) but if you'll watch the match(s) you will come to know about him with the fact that how many can he create for others and how many can he score with individual brialliance.Standing like an idiot on the far post with the defender marking you=hoping for a mistake.

Whether he'll improve or not is a different thing but a person who does not know that while running(on which feet his balance should be is representing India in a World Cup Qualifier) is scary to say the least.

The same unbalanced person scored 2 goals against france..we shud stop complaining if he keeps scoring right...coz there are othrs who even miss tap in goals
Lol!!!!again score!!!

The kid doesn't know a technique which a school level hockey player would know.

Coming from a very strong hockey background i would say these basics are/should be taught at a very young age. This is a technical blunder which he committed.

About the other players,of what i have seen(players keep on changing frequently in Indian Team) i will say that even though they have committed execution mistakes/Blunders but not Technical Blunders as such.

He might score against minnows but against strong teams he will be non-existent as would be the other players who don't know the technical aspect of the game.

Well the kid who doesn't know the technique which a school level hockey player shud know scored again today against a good European team like Spain...
He's making you eat your words
)
OMG Ronny!!!!Have u played hockey at any level? If not then have you watched CHAK De India?

In that movie if you remember that "Shahrukh khan sends Komal to the Sin Bin despite scoring the goal because she didn't pass the ball to a player who was in a better position so scoring isn't everything."

He may score hundreds of goals and may learn over a period of time but at this point he lacks basics is what i have to say.

I am dissapointed with Rupinder Pal Singh. this guy cannot score from Penalty Corners. and time and again, opposition players turn him on wrong side while scoring goals.
Indian team management should look at some players from world series hockey like Gurjinder Singh, Lalit Upadhyay. c'mon a team which cannot defeat Ireland is a disgrace-need some changes.
