But if the league is merged, this 3 month "attractiveness" will go away. The merged league will be a longer proposition.

the merged league will be 5-6 months long for a couple of years (if at all they get merged anytime soon). 5-6 mnths duration league is still good enough to get the foreigners that we get in ISL at the moment

The attractiveness will be expanded to 6 months or whatever... or 1 year. 1 year being over payed in India and probably living a lifestyle which is not "Indian"

Dirk Kuyt is certainly not motivated by money. That much I can guarantee you. Once he is finished in the Dutch league, he will move into coaching, almost certainly with Feynoord. I have no energy or time to explain why generic examples of Italians not wanting to move can be compared with one particular individual that I know off.

For gods sake, the man went to Turkey for gods sake! How can you say he is not motivated by money? He can still work on coaching while playing for a short-season in India.

He went to play for Fenerbache because Liverpool made it very clear that he wasn't going to be given a new deal (thanks Brendan). He was never the most technically gifted but does put in the graft that is matched only by few.

If you know your football, you will know that Fener has a fanatical fanbase, and Dirk lives for playing in front of that sort of crowd. If money was his motivation, he could have chosen to go to the MLS or the middle east, who had also offered him deals. But while he honored his contract with Fener, he was always going to go back to Feynoord, and has often spoken about retiring there.

Not every player is motivated by money, and while they are few and far between, another ex-Liverpool player, Daniel Agger has turned down moves from Milan, Real, Man City in the past to stay with Liverpool, and moved to his boyhood club for peanuts and a huge wage cut when he left Liverpool.

Fine, whatever you say. As an Arsenal fan, by now I have realized that money does play a factor. Is it the ultimate decider or the main motivation? No. But it does play a part.

As does playing in a new country, a new fledging league, and culture... don't rule it out.

Random match of the day: My V-Varen Nagasaki started the J. League Division 2 season well with a 2-1 victory away from home against Zweigen Kanazawa but could not keep it up in their home opener against recently relegated Shimizu S-Pulse, losing 3-0. :(
