Probably the best decision made by the FFA in a long time! The Phoenix are great for the A-League and this also gives hope for an Auckland team in the future. Good on them for not going for the "washed-up Europeans". They would honestly need more than that to fill WestPac so it would be a waste of money, going for guys like Rony is good.
Kosta will also be a great signing for them next season but I would hope they have plans for say Chris Wood and Marco Rojas. Maybe one day get Winston Reid as a marquee.
BFC will say, why waste money on foreigners when our aim is to focus on youth and Indian players Besides, I league teams couldnt convince players like Antonio German, Doutie, Pelissari, Mendoza....a 25 year old Peruvian international looks way to overqualified for I league unless the money is irresistible.
And they are not bad. Josh Walker eventually looked comfortable in his role while John Johnson and Curtis Osano have looked amazing at the back going on three seasons now. Sean Rooney was an Aussie signing and one of the former I-League players to be signed. Michael Collins still needs time.
Ya, these guys are not the quality of Raul but whatever, if they are successful then that does not matter and the fans are happy with the players. Just because you have the means does not mean you have to just make the big splash.

Would have been a terrific signing for I-League
