Love this article. A lot of fans, mainly the casual ones, believe that sports in India is on a rise, and it is, esspecially with the presence of social media and stuff which brings it more attention but the advent of these short-running sports leagues like IPL, ISL, HIL, PKL etc. give a fake view of the current conditions of Indian sport are. If you just follow those leagues then everything is fine and dandy, but look deeper and you see a lot of work is still needed before real progress can occur.
Lodha Committee is against the principles enshrined in the Olympic Charter, International Olympic Committee and the constitution of various International Sports Federations. Any unjust interference, either by the Government or the Judiciary, will result in ban of that country. Lodha Committee was just an eyewash against IPL and irregularities in BCCI. the effort to clean Cricket should come from within BCCI. Instead Lodha Committee has targeted wrong points that one vote from one state. BCCI was formed before Independence of the country-that time the geo-political boundaries in India were different. Look at England- Manchester is no longer in Lancashire. Still the Old Trafford Cricket Ground in Manchester plays as Lancashire Cricket Club. Legacy is there. Same way- In Maharashtra, there are 4 bodies Cricket Club of India, Mumbai Cricket association, Maharashtra Cricket association and Vidarbha Cricket association. Legacy is there and they are serving Indian Cricket with Infrastructure. Lodha Committee propose one vote from these 4 organisations- thats absurd!!! Lodha Committee report will get lost in Court Room Battle if implemented in Olympic Sports. You cannot discriminate against anyone-not on age basis, not even if office bearer has some other position.
Agree fully. I probably should have said in the original post that I don't want a "Lodha committee" type thing for the AIFF or other Indian sports and there are some things that seem way off like the one vote per state etc.
I more loved the article for exposing the sporting landscape in India for what it really is and not for what it is perceived to be.
Really Historic!!! Neeraj Chopra.First Indian to win a junior Athletics Gold Medal. This is a new National Record.
But look at his luck, had he thrown this (86.48m)before 11th July ,he would have smashed the Olympic Qualification Standard (83m) and would have qualified for Rio but it was not meant to be.
86.48 is seriously a world class distance, so much so that he demolished the field where the silver medalist threw 80.65 m.
Even though he has not qualified for Rio Olympics but for Tokyo 2020 Olympics,he surely will be India's best chance for a Medal in Athletics.
