2012 Durand Cup

Probably the biggest Pre-Season tournament and the Smallest Major Tournament at the same time in the Indian football season is back. It is 125 years for the 3rd oldest tournament in the world and to make it up, what better way than to treat it like shit. Ambedkar Stadium is the venue. Already concerns the day of the event which starts today with the Preliminary Round. The 8 known (predicting there are more) teams hoping to qualify are....
Delhi United, JCT Academy, Army Green, J&K Bank, Indian Navy, AFC, Assam Rifles, and R.T. Central. The I-League teams in the event are unknown but according to Arunava Choudhury the Kolkata teams will not play due to the Calcutta Premier Division starting today.

Todays Fixtures:
Most I-League clubs should opt out of Durand Cup.
Poor facilities, reduction in prize money & risk of injuries in pre-season due to playing physical teams like Army, Police etc. As the Fed Cup is held later this year , expect only the likes of USFC,ONGC, Mumbai FC and Pune FC (reserves) making the trip to Delhi.
This doesn't help matter either

one of the 'unknown' I-League club is Pailan Arrows. 23 member Arrows' squad is already in Delhi!

I agree 100% with gaffertape. Actually I wished the I-League clubs showed sadness towards the Durand Cup and also made improving the Durand Cup one of there goals when forming the IPFCA. I mean we have the 3rd oldest cup in the world (football) and yet we treat it like garbage.
I hope the AIFF or maybe IPFCA buy it out, rebrand it (keeping the history) and redish it out. Sadly I dont see that happening.
This is perfect though if the I-League teams send there youth teams. Pune FC Academy would do great to come here.
