PFF LIKELY TO HOST AFC CHALLENGE CUP ASSUMING it finds two venues that meet Asian Football Confederation standards in Manila, the Philippine Football Federation is “90 per cent certain” of hosting the AFC Challenge Cup in May next year, according to PFF president Mariano Araneta Jr.
“The AFC is seriously looking at the Philippines as the host of the AFC Challenge Cup. We just have to find the right venues that meet AFC standards,” Araneta said. “This (hosting) is 90 percent certain.”
Araneta said Maldives, the AFC Challenge Cup host, apparently had difficulty in setting up the infrastructure needed for the eight-nation tournament serving as a qualifying event for the 2015 Asian Cup in Australia.
“The AFC informed us Maldives has not moved to come up with the facilities for the Challenge Cup. It will make an inspection next week to see the country’s progress,” he added.
“The materials for the artificial pitch will be arriving next week and we are looking at the end of January next year for the field to be ready,” Iroy said.
