Indian football: How AIFF have avoided fresh elections since 2020 based on mere assumptions

The Praful Patel-led committee continuing to hold its post is a classic example of how a federation can turn a lawsuit filed against it to its advantage

A member said they didn’t expect the sports ministry or the Indian Olympic Association to intervene. “First of all, the matter is for the court to decide, so nobody would like to step in. Secondly, too much vested interest is involved; it could open a Pandora’s Box. Some of their own people could be caught in the crossfire. The ministry, it seems, is not serious about implementing the sports code.

“Our hopes rest on Supreme Court. Unless it takes a decision, we will have no option but to stand and watch how the tradition and legacy of an 84-year-old national federation is being effectively destroyed for the benefit of a few individuals,” he said.

AFC Third Round dates are 1 Feb  24 Mar   29 Mar   14 June  22 Sep  29 Sep

Is there any time for completely new coach, Camp, Friendly matches ?

When Constantine resigned in January 2019, AIFF / Reliance took 4 months to sign Stimac :)

So any new coach will have to directly face important Qualifier match on Feb 1st
Got to be someone who knows indian football and players good enough. Or will come immediately and watch entire ISL and interact with players.
maybe this is why AIFF is reluctant to fire Stimac.
But it looks like there is no other option especially if tomorrow India fails to win against Nepal.

Still wondering how the performances fell so fast , even if the coach and style has changed . Beating SAFF teams should be a child's play , if we have performed anywhere near this level.

    Exactly man
I hv noticed in ifn these days whenever u raise voice against aiff's work or reliance's conteibution or fsdl's responsibilities , there is a bunch of ifn users who quickly come forward and defend them either by using stimac as shield or by telling u negatives of earlier leagues

What ails Indian football? Amid underwhelming results, time to shun top-down approach

Constantine's successor, Stimac has come under criticism in recent times for his approach that has not yielded results, but he is neither the problem nor the solution.

While the AIFF will have its say on the matter, simply getting rid of the coach will amount to nothing if the more pressing issues are not addressed.

About two years before his unceremonious exit in 2011, a miffed Houghton had remarked: "You can remove the coach and you can bring Guus Hiddink or Jose Mourinho tomorrow and you will still be (ranked) 140 (then)."

More than 12 years ago, Houghton's frustrations were aimed at those in charge of the game in the country.

And while there has no doubt been an improvement in infrastructure and increase in resources, over a decade after the Briton's remark, the senior national team's utter lack of success remains a major cause for concern.

Quick-fix solutions will not take Indian football anywhere and the current dispensation must realise that only hosting big FIFA-sanctioned events would not mask the problems facing the sport.
