I don't see how this is bad. I mean, sure, we just lost a bit of history in Indian football but tell me confidently that never happens in actual, overall history. Churchill Brothers, United, Rangdajied United, and Mohammedan all failed the criteria and the fact they were even awarded a chance to appeal was more than deserved, esspecially after being granted extensions every single year.
At one point the AIFF were going to have to wake up and put their foot down and send the message that they were not going to be easily done by, if you fail to follow the criteria then you are ousted. Of course teams like Royal Wahingdoh, Mumbai, and Shillong Lajong are safe (2 being given just national license) but the others apparently failed more of the criteria and thus deserve to be out.
In the long run this shall do good things for the I-League. First of all, it lowers the amount of teams in Kolkata and Goa. Kolkata is now down to 2 and Goa is down to 3. Shillong is down to 2 still. At the same time we are in the process of allowing direct-entry teams into the I-League which would thus expand the league and give it a more national feel and if they are as successful as Bengaluru FC then we should see the "value" of the I-League increase as well.
Ok, the Champion team gets 70L,fine, That of course doesn't make AIFF professional. The fringe players of the 4 ousted clubs will now find it hard to get a reasonable contract as other clubs will try to squeeze the amount. I am not against this licencing, but does AFC have any licencing criteria for the Association itself ? Mumbai FC doesn't have a home ground (every year we hear Cooperage would be their home venue and this never happens) but they are in. Mohammedan Sporing were informed that their home venue (YBK) has poor toilet facility and no food court, well well well.... the same venue passes as a proper home ground for Mohun Bagan & EB. Now if this is called professional approach by the parent body... my foot.
The AIFF like any other organization has problems of their own but still can't fault them for punishin clubs for their faults.
Mumbai IMO is only here as the AIFF want to keep the city of Mumbai in the I-League and they are hoping a stadium can come soon. Personally I would not be against a corporate coming in to create a new Mumbai team or Pune team.
@AKB there are a few criteria that AIFF has to follow also.... such as making the league a seperate an entity, budget release of the association etc etc
Let AIFF lead by example not by preaching. Professionalism is applicable to the Clubs as well as to the Association. Most of us are vocal in support of AIFF but very few has crticized them for not scheduling the MSC & Churchill matches simutaneously. Why in case of MSC, YBK was poor and why for Mohun Bagan & EB it was ok ? Why points were deducted and later awarded to Salgaocar ? Why the Federation Cup (the biggest knock out tournament in India) be allotted only a fortnight in a year ? Why this year's Federation Cup is shifted to May 2015 ? Nobody has an answer. We are going ga ga over strictness of AIFF when they are as callous as one can ever be. Yes they have to follow certain criteria, but only those which suits them. This is unacceptable. Let AIFF clean up themselves first. You just can't have your house in mess and tell others to shine their houses otherwise they will will not be allowed to enter. I am still pained as with so much good work being done by AIFF, we are languishing at around 140/150 in FIFA ranking. What is their accountability ? BIG 0. Yes, we are impressed by AIFF !!!
Long Live AIFF... God Save Indian Football or will He ?
Thanks Mate. Atleast you share my feelings. I just long to see Indian Football become "'something' atleast in Asia. But you know we are a country of 'know alls' who can only function like Head Masters. without a degree, forget about knowledge. Again I tell you, someday some thing will happen and we will be spared of these Proful Patels, Srini & co. I live for that.
Satish Singh (Churchill brothers SC), who is mainly a right back but can also play as a left back has signed for Mohun Bagan, surely an insurance against Prretam Kotal as he will not be available till December because of Asian Games, Friendly Internationals & ISL
