New Delhi: Clubs struggling to garner points in the ongoing I-League to remain in the safe zone can relax as All India Football Federation (AIFF) has already identified the teams to be relegated this season.
While the normal regulations said the last two finishers in the league table would be demoted, federation sources revealed the axe is likely to fall on three Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) — HAL, Air India and ONGC.
“These three teams would be relegated not on the basis of points table but for failing to meet the AFC Licensing criteria,” sources said, adding that the Pro League committee — which would meet in the capital on Wednesday under the chairmanship of AFC president Mohammed Bin Hammam — is all set to approve the proposal.
“Out of the 14 teams in the I-League, three have failed to meet the licensing criteria of forming themselves into companies despite repeated reminders. Now, the AFC is unlikely to grant them any more extension,” the official said.
All these teams, however, will get a chance to play in the second division I-League when they fulfil the licensing norm.
The latest development also meant that three second division clubs will be promoted to fill the gap.
The PSU teams are naturally unhappy and felt they should be given more time to meet the criteria. “Some of these criteria go against the rules of the company, who are governed by the laws of the land,” said a football official.
The official also pointed out that teams like HAL, Air India and ONGC have spent huge amount for promotion of football for many years. “To throw them out of the league because of technical reasons would be a blow for the game in India,” he said.

To keep them would be a bigger blow. I would be a lil sad for HAL though. What if the clubs promoted from 2nd division this year also dont pass the criteria?? I have another big doubt. Is the license for formation of company the only criteria applied this year? what about the other equally importnt criteria for pro-league??
Then why are fools building a 100 crore stadium in Bangalore if there is no representation from there ???

The verdict has come at inappropriate time. They should have let the league finish. They would have zero motivation to play now. There opponents will have added undue advantage now
Atleast the clubs qualifying won't be PSUs....the only PSU - BEML is thrashed out by the teams...now the big question is whether you want to disqualify clubs like HAL who are the sole representatives of cities like Bangalore
When the League is in urgent need of sponsors, media attention, fans etc these guys kick out a major city like Bangalore. ?
I'm really not in favor of direct promotion from second division, especially when you face stiff competition from other sports then you need to spread the League to new cities/regions to increase the popularity.
I would suicide If same teams from Goa & Kolkata(Mohd Sporting,SC Goa,Samit/Aryan) qualify next season.
May be a new team will formed from bangalore being highly optimistic
at the moment Banglare doesn't have a single club which are good enough for 2nd div
