I see no future with Stephen he should be Sacked and Ashley appointed as new coach. Ashley has better knowledge on Indian players and has proven his ability to convert rejects into stars some of his players like Keegan,Rino, eugenson, etc are playing in NT.
Letting him go means he leaves on a high. Something that AIFF doesnt want. Plus he is deep into BB and the old gang are part of an extensive network now.
No chance he will be out before his contract atleast.
Regarding Westwood's case, Rino and keegan are merely options and not first choice in a limited pool of fullbacks in NT, Eugenson hasnt set the world alight with his NT performances. I still feel he is a luxury player. If his role is to pull the strings from midfield then i would rather have sehnaj and pronoy as proper DM'S than have eugenson on the ball who will not be given time to work in the midfield.
@munna219777; I dont agree with many of your points on SC. Yes, I appreciate his achievement but does he deserve it, I dont think so. Compare to Wim, SC grinds results. But is he the right coach for India, I dont think so. Reasons: a) Gambles are in the end Gambles. Why one want to gamble during World Cup qualifiers against Guam in the away match? For that you have SAFF cup and friendlies. Had this match against didnt come off, we all would want him out? Truth he was just not sure whom to select and whom to exclude. We just cant take risk now, when we are so down in ranking. b) NT fitness didnt improve due to SC. It was because our players just concluded a season. The same set of players were totally unfit and tired during World Cup Qualifiers when SC took them for a day of Army training. Many know what transpired next, a loss to Guam. c) Next year (2017) also, the distraction are going to be same as that of this year. During March and June when first 3 matches will be played, players would have completed a Season ISL (Daily games) and a Season of I-league followed by Fed Cup. (The new format will start in 2018). And dont talk about later half of 2017, when world cup in horizon. The ISL calender is going to be shifted to make the season more congested. So players will more tired than this season. So 'rest' is out of question. d) Irrespective of positive result, this is a right time to remove SC, the new goal is to qualify the round 3 and play asia cup 2019. A strong plan for 2 years can be laid which will help the new coach and team to get adjusted to the new tactics and regime. e) I agree AW is unproven will be gamble. But I will put weight behind him as he seems to grind out positive performances from mediocre players. But if not him, we should go for better coach.
SC has good relation with Bhutia and that's enough for him to stay even with the worst results for an Indian team. Finishing 5th in a group is shame especially when you had 2 lower ranked nations in the group
AIFF should try to organize a friendly in end of August September October FIFA friendly dates.Playing Indonesia will be good. They are just back from the ban and just appointed a new coach and must be preparing for ASEAN CUP in December, so they can give us a good competitive match. Most of our competitors in the AFC qualifications are playing friendly during this window. Philippines v Kyrgyzstan Kyrgyztan v Kazhakstan Jordan v Qatar Tajikistan v Afghanistan Palestine v Tajikistan Malaysia v Singapore Bahrain v Jordan
