I have been reading about Mohun Bagan's astonishing victory over the English army team from East Yorkshire. I am English but I have to give credit where it is due. For the Indian boys to play in bare feet and have the spirit to come back from 1-0 down at half time to defeat their better equipped opponents 2-1 was a great achievement. You have to admire their fighting spirit to have the guts to come out in the second half, outwit, overpower their opponents and ultimately turn the game around with two late goals. The English players must have felt crushed when they saw that photograph of their Indian conquerers posing with the trophy at their bare feet.

I don't want to dwell on these aspects of MB too much here given the predominance of the kind of AUDIENCE this forum constitutes keeping in mind the grave risk of being misunderstood and ridiculed for being STUCK UP with HISTORY, something which in the new age India of corporate and bollywoodee glam sham, a select few might be interested. If you are looking for heritage and history of Indian football, contribution to the Indian freedom movement, Mohun Bagan will be one among the very few names that will be up there, no wonder it's inscribed NATIONAL CLUB OF INDIA on the club main gate. Even till date, I can't think of many Indian clubs who are constantly working for the underprivileged in the society, the wayward in the society along with rubbing shoulders in the big league. This is where MB is VASTLY DIFFERENT from the rest. It's more than a mere football club, it's a religion with representations at all levels in the Indian society, not just the suave English speaking economically advantageous wannabes with their new found interest in Indian football. While winning trophies is important, equally important is societal good. I say this well aware that very few in this forum will understand the deep meaning of a football club following being compared to religion.

A year ago, a movie name EGARO was made on Mohun Bagan's contribution to Indian freedom movement, first time a movie made on an Indian football club. Not sure if you have heard of the movie LAGAAN, which was on similar lines but based on cricket, more fictional than reality. What you see in EGARO happened for REAL. Please find below a link to the movie with English sub titles. If you have issues watching the movie, let me know. I did not have time to watch the entire movie at this youtube link.
