Probably they look at Friendlies or International matches as competition to their ISL popularity. Good Ranking and Pot is just an excuse to hide that.
Just like they sideline I-league, they are also against organising/hosting any International Friendlies in india unless it is absolutely necessary.
They are playing some away matches. Instead of playijng two Internationals Home and Away in any FIFA window - we end up playing only one - Away.
They cant escape from hosting AFC cup or AFC / WC Qualifier so thats bare minimum.
Chennaiyin FC is made to play AFC Cup in Ahmedabad and Chennai City is made to play in Coimbatore. Chennai will never host any International match (WC Qualifier or any Friendly International). It stays exclusive territory of Chennaiyin in ISL.
They should actually utilise Mumbai for Friendlies. They have a good local Federation and compact stadium with passionate fans. The match we played against Puerto Rico was a success.
next ranking schedule is on 14th June and 18th July ,draw is in July ..Ideally we should play China, Kyrgystan , Oman to get draw or one odd win to come in pot 2 ..
This King's Cup is happening in June. Most probably India will participate in Thailand. Atleast 2 matches for National team. We can get some points but probably not enough for pot 2.
