Key Points (with respect to India, based on my understanding): 1) "P = Pbefore + I * (W – We)
Pbefore: Points before the match
I: importance of match
I= 05 Friendly matches played outside of International Match Calendar windows
I= 10 Friendly matches played during International Match Calendar windows
I= 15 Group phase matches of Nations League competitions
I= 25 Play-off and final matches of Nations League competitions
I= 25 Qualification matches for Confederations final competitions and for FIFA World Cup final competitions
I= 35 Confederation final competition matches up until the QF stage
I= 40 Confederation final competition matches from the QF stage onwards; all FIFA Confederations Cup matches
I= 50 FIFA World Cup final competition matches up until QF stage
I= 60 FIFA World Cup final competition matches from QF stage onwards
W: result of the match
1 = win; 0.5 = draw; 0 = defeat
We: expected result of the match
We = 1 / 10(-dr/600) + 1)
with dr=difference in ratings of the two playing teams, i.e. dr = [Pbefore of Team A – Pbefore of Team B]"
2) "Annual average point calculation – which is used in the current world ranking formula – will no longer be factored." - This means India will be evaluated based on the matches won currently not of the past. So if India can keep on winning matches like it has in last year. It will gain in ranking irrespective performance 4 years back.
3) "The Confederation weighting variables in the current formula, which make rising in the standings more challenging for teams from Confederations other than Europe or South America, will be removed" - AFC is now equal to UEFA or CONMEBOL. This is good for AFC teams because now each match in AFC is equal to UEFA. Teams from UEFA/CONMEBOL will be encouraged to play against AFC teams.
4) "Friendlies will now also be distinguished between those that are played during International Match Calendar windows (value = 1) versus those played outside the recognised dates (value = 0.5)." - This means tournaments like recent intercontinental cup (outside FIFA dates) will weigh lesser points thus prompting AIFF to play more friendlies on FIFA calender dates. High time India needs to get out of old mentality. Caveat - Point 1. Importance of matches in "Nations League competitions" - Does it include Intercontinental cup types of competition?? (Confusion)
5) "Competitive matches in championship tournaments will also be distinguished between group stage matches and late-stage knock-out matches in an attempt to reward the most successful teams in the most difficult competitions. Furthermore, to mitigate the negative consequences of losing matches in championship tournaments, losses in the knock-out rounds of final competitions will not result in point deductions for the losing team" - Winning in knock out matches will improve the points but not deduct them. India winning Intercontinental Final will increase the point but Kenya will not loose any.
6) " One of the main advantages of SUM is that it allows for a smooth transition from the current ranking
formula to the new one without displacement of teams in the existing ranking table. " - Not sure, but I have the understanding that the current point and ranking of India will be starting point of new ranking system.
India's rank is bad.. but the teams which defeated us are just above us makes it sensible... we never defeated stronger opposition in last 4 years... so our ELO ranking did not improve... makes sense...
Hope this type of ranking will end all the lies those are currently going on
Plus their last rank is 238 ... so we have 79 countries below us And we are best in SAFF (including Afghanistan) . Really liked these ratings. See how we earned our ratings:
