PV Sindhu's next rival will be sixth seeded Japanese Nozomi Okuhara. If she gets past Okuhara, she may run into world number one Carolina Marin or Chinese great Xuerui. The good news is, Sindhu has beaten both in the past.

Bhaiyon, one thing which pisses me off is Hindi Commentary.Sakshi wins a medal the Hindi commentary(Who I suppose is from Haryana) says Sakshi Shows why "Haryana is no.1".The other commentator says no India is no. 1.This love for State and not the country is really saddening. When Dharambir Singh,Inderjeet Singh failed dope test then Haryana was not no.1.

Haryana has the lowest Sex ratio. So,the whole credit should go to Sakhshi and her parents and not the State.

Our athletes performs the best when there is a least amount of expectation out of them. They need to learn to handle the burden of expectations. Maybe it is complacency or pressure or fear, I dont know but they need to handle it. I have been saying that many times India wins medal from the most unexpected sources.

Congratulations Sakshi for bringing laurel to India!!

Olympics is for winning medals when athlete is young and in his best form. Barring few exceptions and legendary athletes like Usain Bolt, Carl lewis or say Japanese Women Wrestlers, most Athletes can perform their best for 4-5 years only -say 1 or 2 Olympics.
The reason why India get medals from unexpected sources is that we generate hype only on past perfromance, not on present form and fitness. M C Marykom are not as good in 2016 as they were in 2012. Malleswari was in best form in 2000 and it was unexpected. When we generated hype in 2004, she failed. P T Usha was best in 1984 to 1986 but lot of hype in 1988 Olympics failed her. Sushil Kumar best was 2008 to 2012, similarly Yogeswar Dutt between 2010 to 2014. Rajyawardhan Rathore was great in 2004 Olympics, not when he was hyped in 2008.
Dipa Karmakar is 23 years now and in best of her career. Any hype when she is 27 or 31 years old in this field of Gymnastics for future Olympics will be wrong. Instead they should focus on 50 girls training in Tripura in age group of 12 to 14 and find one even better then Dipa to win medals in 2020 and 2024 Olympics.
Sakshi Malik has proved that Hype on past performance is immaterial, it is present form, youth and talent what matters.
Olympics is not Cricket - 21 years to 35 years you keep on getting selected.

Who had expected a bronze in tennis singles at Atlanta in 1996. One of the most surprising medals that we have won.
