I would have also loved to see Star Sports telecast the games. But, its not happening.  We can sit here and curse them. That's it.

STAR Sports won't telecast the games as no one/barely anyone would watch them... simple as that. Deal with it.

so how many people watch renji trophy?
  • ArsenalFan700ArsenalFan700 Reddit13655 Points
Probably more than would watch an AFC Cup or I-League match. Definitely not as many that would watch the IPL but certainly enough to warrant the Ranji Trophy over us.

Also, you have to take into account... you are trying to make a case with Ranji Trophy which contains some of the better cricketers in the world over the I-League and AFC Cup... far away from the best in our sport.

The ISL had marquee players who were among the best and a lot of other foreigners and foreign coaches who were decent.

what is average crowd in stadiums for Ranji Trophy? Not even 10% of I-League.
Ten Action France Ligue 1 games Live on TV. How many people think that league has more viewers in India then I-League.
I think that here, the issue is who is promoting the product rather then what is the product!!!! If you add names like Ambani, Bachchan, Tendulkar behind any product, that will be promoted by Media. Otherwise not.

a EB afc match will have much higher TRP then Ranji trophy match for sure.

Just look up the Ranji Trophy... easily a lot more coverage of that then the I-League.

Exactly! And are we even surprised by this? India is one of the best cricket nations in the world. They are always a big side heading into the ICC Cricket World Cup, the IPL is most festive and popular T20 league in the world, and the popularity of the sport can be seen in almost every single state and especially among the celebrities.

Cricket is basically what American football is to the United States. The only difference though is unlike American football, I believe that association football can actually take over cricket in the future but it will take a long time but for now we are far away from that. The Indian Super League has the celebrity aspect down and also proper players and that pushes it but even that is not as popular as the English Premier League in India.
