IMG has seen the potential in this country. Just like any other American corporation sees. The point is that everyone just says while they are doing the real work. Although, a lot still needs to be done and work is not world class. But, their thesis of investing in youth football and help in grow in the hope that someone may make it big and ultimately bring money to them so that they can en cash on his popularity in India seems fair enough. I dont mind them making money. Its a business in the end. What do you think? These big american, russian, and saudi honchos own big clubs in europe for passion. Bullshit. Its a revenue model in the end to save taxes dumbo. All I want is results and India to be a good footballing nation. PEACE
A 40 year old Sandip Nandy as a backup goalkeeper is not that bad and I'm sure he's not the first choice. Hopefully, Blasters will sign Karanjit Singh!
Cassano said recently that the only real football is in Europe (South America?)... I don't want a guy like that in either MLS or ISL... he can fuck off to the Middle-East if he wants a pay-day with fake football.
As for Atletico de Kolkata... Podany is easily replaceable. Guy only has 2 games with Sparta and he thinks he is the shit.
PANAJI: Mumbai City FC have resolved their differences with Nicolas Anelka and are set to have him as their marquee player for the second season of the Indian Super League (ISL).
Anelka, 35, missed three games at the start of ISL last year due to his quenelle gesture while playing for West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League. Once he served out his suspension, he featured for Mumbai City FC, and even though he scored twice and had two assists, he could not guide Mumbai to the semifinals.
Mumbai City surprised many when they released Anelka -- who was officially the league's fifth best player -- at the end of the season. But their differences now appear to have been resolved as Mumbai City have lured him back to the fold.
According to sources, the former France international will be the marquee signing for the Mumbai club, although it could not be confirmed if the same deal of approximately Rs 5 crore has been agreed upon.
Arsenal legend Fredrik Ljungberg was the marquee player for Mumbai City last season but injuries meant he made just four appearances for the club.
"We are evaluating several options, including Anelka. We will make an announcement within the next two weeks," said Indranil Blah, CEO, Mumbai City FC.
The Mumbai franchise initially wanted Esteban Cambiasso as their marquee player but hopes of signing the Argentinean midfielder evaporated after he helped Leicester City avoid relegation and is now keen to extend his one-year deal with the Foxes.
Cambiasso, who turns 35 in August, was named Leicester City's Player Of The Year after playing an integral role in their great escape.
Mumbai City FC had also explored the possibility of signing Diego Forlan but the Uruguayan striker has a steep asking price of Rs 7.8 crore.
Anelka, 35, is among the more prolific strikers to play in India. He has played for some of the most illustrious clubs in Europe, including PSG, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Liverpool, and Juventus, but since the ISL came to a close in December last year, he has not played any competitive match.
The French striker trained with NA Hussein Dey -- a club based in the Algerian capital Algiers - early this year but the signing could not be completed as Algerian rules state that foreign players have to be under 27 and currently play for their country.
Very Good signing. Anilka was one of best players to ever play on Indian soil. he was very good last season the problem was that other Mumbai players were not up to mark to support his or they lacked Footballing Brian who anilka has. Anilka looked fastrated at most of his matches. add to that Mumbai had a combo of 2 shit old style long ball British coaches. this season Mumbai may challenge for title.
As far as title challenge goes for Mumbai city fc lot will depend on who is manager and how much time/power he is given to select his players at least foreign ones... last season we had a manager who don't use much of mid if Mumbai city goes for another long ball tactic manager who don't use much of midfield possession ... if they should spend money on another forward and a deep lying midfielder who is good on long balls
