  • they should hire santosh kashyap....he is really good with young and unknown players.....a great motivator and tactician (set pieces)...... he also has a point to prove to MB.....he also must be itching to get back into action asap

  • @Rudra Player/Coach.... thats been done before... I think one 3rd tier English club is doing that.

  • but Baichung do not have coaching license. According to AFC rules for I-league, a coach should have license while sitting on the bench. Maybe they will put Ridder at bench as a coach while Baichung is the unofficial coach. Strange-I thought United Sikkim got good financial situation. They are earning 5-6 lakh rupees atleast from gate receipts due to good crowd at home matches

5-6 Lakh gate receipts is just enough to cover the rent for the housing for all the players & food bills for each month.

Even if there wage bill is reported to be the lowest in I-League 2012-13, which means they are operating on a 2 Cr budget, thats styli 20 lakhs a month in out goings for wages. Not to mention support staff & cost of transportation from Gangtok-Bagdogra ( cab costs 3500, so a jeep for 8 players would probably be 4grand each trip). AIFF will re-imburse these costs , but they often take their time ( just like prize money for I-League), so the day to day costs are tough for USFC as mentioned earlier on in the season.

Mumbai FC have issues with this, as revealed recently & AIr India always have this issue.
Word from the dressing rooms is that SCdeGoa and SLFC are in a similar pickle,.

The big Goan boys are affected by the Supreme COurt mining ban , but that only affects their expansion plans. The running of the clubs & wages are pocket change for these big boys. As for the A License, it is a criteria, but an interim coach can function without a license. Besides loads of A license Indian coaches who would love to sit on the bench next to Bhaichung , even for no money...
  • Baichung Bhutia has worn
many hats on and off the football pitch.
On Tuesday, he also added to the
coach's hat to his collection. With his
team United Sikkim FC still smarting
from the 1-10 defeat at the hands of United SC in their I-League match last
Saturday, Baichung - both a player and
co-owner of the team - got into the act,
    restructuring the team management by
    elevating himself as player-cum-coach
and giving coach Philippe de Ridder the role of football director.

"I'll be coaching the team on a
temporary basis till we get a suitable
candidate. It's a challenge and, at the
same time, a risk," he said ahead of his
team's practice session at the East
Bengal club on Tuesday. "It's not new for a player to be coach of the team as
well. It's happened in Europe, with
    Ruud Gullit.

    "Sometimes things just happen and
situations call for a different reaction
and different perspective. As a team,
we are going through a difficult phase.
So I have stepped up to take it as a
    challenge," he added.

Baichung will make his debut as coach
this Sunday when United Sikkim face
Sporting Clube in Margao. He, however,
believes that the team will bounce back
from their heaviest defeat. "The 1-10
result is not normal. And it may influence a team in two ways. It will
    either destroy you completely or
motivate you for a revival. I believe I'm
    professional enough to understand the
situation and turn things around," he
reasoned. He has been there and done that as a
player, but as coach he's aware of "this
    huge challenge" of shepherding the
team out of a crisis. Baichung - who
claimed to have gone through a brief
coaching lesson during his stint with Bury FC in England a decade ago - ruled
out coaching as an immediate career
    option.

  • got some insight into the coach issue form support staff of USFC...it seems that USFC players and de Ridder weren't getting along well..Quinton Jacobs left USFC specifically for this reason..even though he was playing @ peanuts while at USFC he would have continued if not for de Ridder , Rennedy , Sushil...and none of the current crop of players are happy with de Ridder at the helm of things...and

  • contd..

contractual clause does not allow USFC management to kick out de Ridder completely that's why he has been given as called TD status.

Looks like USFC is having all kinds of issues..should have established themselves properly before jumping into ileague

Well not really when you look at the rest of I-League. I still say Mohun Bagan is worse to be honest but they are both about the same. USFC is just having sponsor problems which is a cause of the small population of Sikkim and location of the place and sadly that cause in De Ridder's contract. They got him off the coaching post but hopefully soon they will be able to get rid of De Ridder 100%. I thought he was a good coach but after seeing his style and all that I lost faith in him. No wonder East Bengal let him go. Perhaps he can do well as the Director of Football but if was Baichung I would really look for a way out of that.

As for him coaching... this will be fun... for good reasons. I always pictured Baichung being a good coach. I actually have visions of him being the coach of the India national team.

Currently my dream is for Wim to lead us till around 2018 and then Papas comes in till 2026 and then steps in Baichung.
