Okay? So we should get a foreign coach in order to win the World Cup? Are we expecting India to win the World Cup soon? Look at Japan, Japan needed to boost their footballing profile and their national team and they brought in a foreign coach.

    Developing nations need foreign coaches.

Whoever it is Must be from the scene. Someone who isn't an outsider to Indian football

I prefer someone from outside Indian football. We need no biases but I wouldn't care if it is someone like Habas as well.

Don't coaches who aren't aware of the scene heavily rely on assistant inputs? We all know how that goes.

That is in ISL where time to perform is very less. An experienced coach worth his name would surely do it from the forefront. Or at least establish a system.

Foreign coaches are way ahead with their technical knowledge. How many Indian coaches upgrade themselves? As in the case of players, desi coaches are good materials, but horribly out of touch with modern techniques. Only emotion do not get you anywhere in today's football.

IMO Thangboi Singto, Khalid Jamil, Sanjoy Sen, are good among mediocres (for no fault of their own); Armando in his time was good; Subrata Bhattachaarya is arrogant (game reading good though). Derrik Perriera, Santosh Kashyap, Nayeemuddin, Biswajit Bhattacharya mediocre again. I don't consider Pradumn Reddy an 'Indian' coach, so he is out of this. Those coaches are more 'managers' than coaches.

Yes, countries which have improved are driven by their own coaches. But I think it is the reverse. Countries which have improved started with coaches' development (along with grassroots programs), be it Japan, Korea, Ghana, Ivory Coast or Paraguay. We are seeing after their development have become visible and we are thinking that the desi coaches were the drivers. When the coaches, like the players, are also outcome of their programs taken up earlier.

This. Which Indian coach has even coached against the quality we will be playing at the Asian Cup? Can someone like Jamil go from having his players all the time and being able to implement his system to all of a sudden having them for a week every couple of months and a few games to implement a system?

Also out of all the coaches, Jamil is the only Indian coach I like right now but he needs more experience in the club scene. He did great with Aizawl last season but before that it was battles in relegation with Mumbai and everyone had very bad opinions of him before he took over in Mizoram. Lets see how he handles East Bengal in the I-League at least.

He was OK in CFL, but it was CFL after all.

Well ya, lol, not sure the coach of our national team should be judged based on CFL, unless he fucked up in it.

We have 2 more Qualifiers left- against Myanmar which SC will supervise and one more in March. Probably that one and a SAFF Cup in Summer will be the opportunity for new coach.
At this moment, even SC is not sure about his future.

Dont expect many Friendlies before AFC Asian Cup. ISL will happen early - most probably between September to Nov/Dec and they may not allow any Friendlies. New Coach or SC will need to recognise that.
