Goan clubs will limit themselves to GPL probably. Whatever becomes the top tier , Goa should have 2 teams.

So its started already- the downfall. The DREAM of 3 tier league will soon die down with no takers in the lower leagues. Probably and eventually only the so called historical teams might remain only because of love for football

"A club who haven't exactly caught the imagination of the public in a competition guilty of the same failure ever since the I-League came into play in 2007"

Thus why this is all happening

Mumbai as a city dont seem to be good enough to have two teams at present... a merge would be good for both the club... if not that then i am expectng MFC to play in 2nd division which is still good enough for me to continue my allegiance to the i-league club over ISL one.. ..

Interesting year ahead for the indian football fans... lot more interesting than the IMG-rel takeover of AIFF few years back..

Why is there this requirement of merger? If Mumbai City FC is so good, they do not need Mumbai FC to merge with them. Anyways the new name after merger will be Mumbai City FC. If Mumbai FC cannot survive, it will close down. Mumbai City FC and Mumbai FC play at different venues. The ownership of Mumbai City FC is murky - there can be no merger. I dont think that Essel Group is interested in any percentage either of ISL club.

Could be anything, sponsorship maybe? Maybe they do want a stake? Who knows.

For Mumbai City meanwhile, they get access to players and an already started youth program.

Mumbaikars would be confused who are which club.

If one really wants to rehabilitate both the clubs, he can space out them. Though they are practically positioned apart (one in Cooperage and the other in twitterage), the smaller club may be shifted to Nagpur (not Pune, thank you), and may be renamed appropriately.

Why move to Nagpur? That would involve a lot of costs and risks in itself.

Nagpur, I think, merits one team in the overall scheme of the leagues, because of its size. And it is quite a happening city. It should be in the leagues of Hyderabad, Jaipur or Chandigarh, any of which cities can have a team.
