If you don't want to get it you won't get it. If a sentence starts with "if" that means it's a plausible scenario and not something which is happening. Either ways, enough fun for one day.
Such a funny discussion without any facts and figures. I am a guy who is only concerned about hard facts and figures. As for gaffertape, why don't you go on and reveal the percentage that IMG has in each of these clubs that they own (according to you)? I'd rather be interested in knowing the magic number. As for the sponsorship and viewership details. Its a gradual process. It is increasing every year. Jeez. Basic economics guys. Inflation. Supply Demand. Don't you know? What is wrong if IMG owns the clubs? MLS did the same. These guys are Americans. Someone did that in America and was successful and they are trying the same in India. No qualms about that. Obviously, Indian market is different as compared to American one. But, with reliance's experience they may be doing something right. At least they must be having certain guidance. EastBengalPride wants ISL to create infrastructure, youth development, money in just 2 years of time. Haha. You know what EastBengalPride? Its good that you are not a businessman. Because with your business model viz making money in the first 2 yrs itself and investing money in youth development and infrastructure, your business would be a FAILURE. YOU KNOW NOTHING EASTBENGALPRIDE. As for the market penetration, acc. to you, if IMG withdraws their support, ISL will fail. Obviously it will. That is what they are trying to do. They are trying to do things in a better way. Even if they had invested money in promoting I League. Who will bloody watch it? These clubs have no affection among fans except EB and MMB. They don't associate with people. Are they willing to spend? Are they willing to invest so much while also face losses to the tune of 39cr every year. Hell no brother. That is why ISL was created. So, that IMG can implement their business model.
Half the comments of @EastBengalPride starts with "ifs" ...and discussing probable situations that might or might not even happen in the future. Its like the usual wishful thinking by ISL haters.
True and ALL the ISL support statements are gospel truths....just read the loong post by @coolgagan filled with fancy words like markets and business models....a first year mba student would write a very scathing review of it leave alone some of us....exactly the kind of yuppie, superficial and fleeting supporters the circus aspires to....good luck to them
You don't need to be a "first year MBA student" to understand basic terms like markets and business models. If only you had the exposure. EastBengalPride likes to live in a virtual world with 'ifs' and 'buts'. Let him continue in his world. Please don't shatter his dream. Please don't destroy his virtual environment people. This is an appeal. This guy is SICK. Disillusioned. Haha. So, sad that you had to resort to calling me an airhead. Speaks volumes of your intellectual capability and rational caliber. Loser!
Why would a guy choose to come to a country where the ranking is 150 unless you get them more money? Cause for the most part, other than FIFA ranking not mattering for domestic leagues, is that the money would probably be better in India than most of Africa, South America, and Asia. Do you even know the salaries of some of the players who come from say Argentina, Colombia etc.? Unless you are a big time player in those countries, you could probably earn more in India. Same with players in Africa, same with players from some Asian countries, and same with players from Central America or even the Caribbean! No doubt ISL teams could get players for a full year and more.
Football is about passion? True, but welcome to the modern world now. This "passion" thing might have worked decades ago but the world works differently now and modern football is totally different as well. You want to have a success football league these days? If you do, you need a stable league which does have a focus on money. Sadly, it won't happen through passion and it won't happen organically and form over 100 years, that is unrealistic these days.
As for infrastructure, youth development etc. Well, what do you want from a league which has only completed two seasons and which currently only lasts a 2-3 month season? The stadiums the ISL teams currently play in look fantastic during the ISL season and the training grounds they use look fantastic. Teams are also currently holding grassroots festivals and camps for kids and, based on pictures, you can see that the grounds being used for the camps are in good condition as well.
I know people hate when I mention MLS but I will. It took the league 8-10 years to really start investing in their own stadiums and even longer to invest in training facilities and the like. Many teams still share with colleges and local sports associations for training. Youth development? The league only started having youth academies in the late 2000s and are still working on making them not only free for players but also getting down to lower age levels. This shit takes time to get going.
Also people knew about Mendoza but I am certain he was signed for his ISL performance. New York City FC only had 1-2 international spots left on the team. Really think they would just give it to him cause he was coming from a Brazilian Serie A bench? MLS teams are not desperate. They saw he did great abroad in India... really good, and signed him up. And we do get recognition, somewhat, because of the move. I love it when he comes on and the commentator is like "And here is Mendoza, coming off an impressive season in India and the Indian Super League."
Also, what is this bullshit about TEN Action and how it is the fault of the AIFF? That is deflecting blame from the clubs who deserve just as much blame as the AIFF in the whole reason we are in this fucking mess in the first place.
