I agree with the sponsor stuff but there are plenty of decent foreign players who would choose to come to India from South America, Asia, and esspecially Africa. Even some European players could come, lower division England.

With a longer league some issues will get solved . Clubs playing in asia will improve sponsership and get more eye balls . With proper infrastructure many losses will be reduced .
As arsenalfan700 said , there are many players who will make there way into india . By 2020 we will have a real picture of Indian football .
Why as a professional player would you choose the league of a country ranked in 150s unless the money is much higher? What infrastructure are we talking about? No football club in India including ISL ones have money to create infrastructure. If my business is India centric I don't care if my logo is seen in Burma or Singapore. Also for a couple of matches abroad that too if the team qualifies for AFC tournaments isn't gonna do the deal for sponsors to increase money, they aren't fools. If longer league would have resulted in more money, IPL would have been a 6 month league by now. These kind of masala stiff is liked by people in a non sporting nation in short quick servings, too much and there will be dysentery (viewer fatigue) as most don't give a shit about football or badminton for that matter. So how do a ISL club make money? In their 3rd year or in their 5th year? Thing is football is more about passion than making money. Roman Abrahamovic didn't buy Chelsea to make money, nor did the Glaziers bought Man U to become rich or the Sheikhs of Mid East. Football gives you fame and limelight which a lot of your money can't give you but in exchange you should be prepared to loose a fair bit of money. It's your passion for the game and your esteem which makes rich people buy football clubs and F1 teams. You think a Srinivas Dempo, Shivanand Salgaocar, Vijay Mallaya have poured more than 200 crores in their respective teams each to get back their investment? No, they want a bit more limelight for it which AIFF couldn't make I-League deliver. Make that bit and you would see the Mahindras come back and a filmy or cricket face won't be required.
Cricket is a national sport whereas football is played more at the club level .
Yup ! Passion is more important than money . A reason why most lower league players will prefer India and be more famous in India and will help them get recognization in better leagues . Classic example is Mendoza .
I don't know why all blame AIFF . I league clubs too have failed to catch the immagination of people .
Never knew or heard about I league though football has a good following in Jammu . But with ISL i got addicted to Indian football . Now i like football more than cricket and this year i have watched more football than cricket .
Things are changing but if some people are resisting the change what can i do .

I know mendoza was contracted to a Brazilan club but he did got into limelight in India . Infact this had to 2 way effect . Due to him ISL also got a tiny recogination in that part of the world .
If a talented player like him can play in India then so can others .
I came to know about ISL from the interview of Bachan and Matarize on IPL Pre match show .
