@shubham_northeastern It doesn't make a difference for franchises. they are part time institutions anyway. but it will hurt EB and MB if true. they don't just play during Oct-Dec and go in hibernation for rest of the year  like other ISL teams.

It seems the duo are aghast at the audacious proposal of IMG-R and are going to reject it. Good for them. Probably this is a bargaining attempt from IMG-R's side and some time will elapse before a middle ground is struck. I think this will not remain a 'club only' decision, all sections of the Bengali society will be engaged in the debate, and decision shall be on the basis of a common ground. So as per 'if it happens, it happens, ...' dictum, the unification (or take over, if you prefer) will be pushed to next season.

The Kolkata club are ready for discussions despite the initial draft agreement sent by IMG-Reliance being not to their satisfaction...

2014-15 I-League champions Mohun Bagan have confirmed that they received a contract offer from IMG-Reliance with regards to participating in the lucrative Indian Super League as part of a revamp of the Indian domestic football structure.

But, the Kolkata-based club are not pleased with the initial terms in the offer but have indicated they ar willing to re-negotiate with IMG-Reliance.

"Since the going away of Mcdowell's in the mid-season 3 years back, we (Mohun Bagan) were frantically looking for partners.  We had also approached IMG-Reliance and various rounds of discussions had taken place. The prospect of playing in ISL was also discussed. IMG-Reliance had also come up with lot of options and ideas.  During all levels of discussion we had always said amongst various other things that the Logo, Jersey colours and most importantly the name of our beloved club cannot be changed at any cost.

"But to our surprise when we have received the Draft agreement, none of the points was incorporated or mentioned.  But we still believe that all disputes can be resolved through meaningful dialogue and discussions," a club statement read.

Though not pleased with the initial offer, The Mariners are open to the idea of playing in the ISL as IMG-Reliance hope to turn the three-season-old league into India's premier footballing tournament.

Mohun Bagan president Swapan Sadhan Bose said, "I strongly feel that Mohun Bagan should explore all possible avenues to ensure that the team plays in the highest level football tournament in the Country because Indian Football can never be complete without Mohun Bagan."

On the other hand, East Bengal and Mohun Bagan officials had a meeting with AIFF vice-president Subrata Dutta and IFA secretary Utpal Ganguly to express their grievances about the draft contract. The officials, though, decided not to speak to the media after the meeting at the Bengal club

Would've been nice if they could modernize the logo without losing the identity.

Manash Pratim Datta's View on ISL and I-League merger.

The need of the hour for Indian Football is a merge of the ISL and the I-League. If this doesn't happen soon, the future of the Club football scene in India will move towards a condition which is absolutely bleak and dark. There has been endless debates , proposals and assumptions on how this joint league should be. There has always been a constant question amongst the fans: which of the two is better. The answer to this dilemma can be put like this --->
Structure-wise, the I-League is better. It has a certain promotion and relegation, a sort which every proper league should have. It ensures that a club can never be overpowered by foreign players and 7 Indians will always play in the playing eleven. It even ensures that a U22 player should be in the StartingXI .
But I league never got close to the popularity that ISL achieved within its debut year. The standard of football in ISL is better. The audience of ISL is far more than the I league. ISL is entertaining. ISL has given the budding youth footballer of India the hope of making a career in this game, which earlier was almost not possible. In ISL The players get the recognition they deserves.
However, same players cannot play two league in a single year. It will never develop them. As Sunil Chhetri said , a player never wants to play for two different clubs, wearing two different Jerseys .

So here is an ideal/ practical merging scenario we want to see in ISL 4.

(Assuming that KEB and MB will be successful in negotiating with IMG Reliance and ATK to be included in the merged league)
    * A total of 11/12 teams in ISL 4.
    * 8 ISL team + EB + MB+ BFC + Aizawl FC( if they managed to win I league)
    * League should be between October to March.
*Only one match for a club in a single week.
    * Maximum of 5 foreigners including one from Asia.
    * Bigger purse to franchises for purchasing of players.
    * Players should have their say in selecting a club to play.
    * Yes! The proposed structure should have knock out games. ( We Indians like knock-out games)

    ## Promotion/ Relegation
Another controversial problem of proposed Merger league is the scenerio of Promotion and Relagation. According to the terms and conditions of the club with IMG Reliance, the clubs can't be relegated till 10 years of its inception. That is 7 years from now, therefore no present ISL team can be relegated. This shouldn't be much of a problem.
If one team is promoted every year from the second division, ISL 10 will have 18/19 team. This is a perfect number of teams that a proper league should have. One promotion each year means AIFF and IMG Reliance will have time in their hands to monitor the growth of the league and the league will thereby see a gradual development. The club of lower division will also have a motive to play better football. By the time ISL 11 starts , the league will be mature enough to start the process of Relegation.
If things happen close to what we fans are expecting, Indian football will reach unseen heights and breach boundaries that have never been crossed earlier.

Castles are built in air, but only in wonderland.  :) ;)
  • Knock out matches are fine. But the final should have 2 legs. Why play in a fucking neutral venue

Maybe not to give any unfair advantage to any of the finalists ?

A 6-7 m long League should never have knock outs to decide the Winner. Some may quote some countries which follow such pattern but common sense says League should be League & Knock outs shoyld have  a Cup tournament. Needs to keep things simple rather than prolonging the League for the sake of money.
