Whatever decision AIFF takes here, they will need to get it approved from AFC also. Unless any club is of topmost league or from cup tournament, a club can't play in any AFC tournament. By the way, next year afc cup participants are aizawl fc and bfc unless bfc cease to exist and becomes a reliance sport franchise Bengaluru commandoes or something like that. This is not any rocket science. One league has to be declared a top league and it's winner goes into afc and all qualifier. Then we have a cup where both i-league and isl can play provided isl teams as well as league gets recognised and fulfill regulations.
Or make super cup like federation cup with some changes,8 teams divided in 2 groups play home-away games with each other total games would b 25 Matches will b less both leagues go happy
Why not 1 play-off match between the ISL and I-league winner? The winner goes to ACL PO and loser goes to AFC Cup PO.
It doesn't make enough sense to give away an AFC Cup spot to ISL simply, that doesn't clear it's status.
Why link Asian cup slots to this stupid idea of a tournament? If slots are there only for the tournament then what value will be the leagues for?
Agree that there has to be a cup competition but not at the expense of the league which needs to be primary.
Alternatively,Super Cup/League should be a complete knockout tournament.
4 teams from 8,2 from 4 and then the winner.
That will reduce the duration of the tournament.
