I'm wondering whether removing the playoffs would only be a temporary thing (because of the smaller schedule or the Super Cup or whatever) and then bring them back next season.
I believe that in a league without promotion/relegation, you at least need finals. One thing to play for is underwhelming.
Number of foreigners reduced in ISL, might increase for I-League

Kolkata: Indian Super League franchises to field lesser number of foreigners this season as the franchises can now field a maximum number of five foreigners from now on instead of the previous rule of having six foreigners in the playing eleven. The I-League clubs on the other hand might have the increased number of foreigners from the next season. The number of of foreigners might be five instead of four, if the clubs want.
In an interaction with www.xtratime.in , The AIFF Secretary Kushal Das said, “The ISL franchises can now only field five foreigners in the playing eleven as I have been confirmed by the AFC. If the I-League clubs request us to increase their number of foreigners from four to five, we will certainly revert that request.”
The AIFF Secretary also said, “I had a word with Mr Dato Windsor last night and he confirmed me that there shouldn’t be three different leagues in a season. The proposed Champions League might have ended in next July if we would have continued with it. But there might be a possibility of a new knock-out tournament in place of that Champions League. But he told me that it won’t be possible to give an ACL playoff spot to a knock-out champion.” He added, “We now have to sit and discuss the possible solutions.”
Mr Das also confessed that he got a letter from the IFA about the matter and he said, “I got a letter from the IFA and asked him to give me two days more to write him back. He also said that he doesn’t have any problem.”
Good news coming in for the I-League as well. Mr Das said, “A few franchises have reportedly shown their interest to play in the I-League. Mallapuram and Trivandram asre also there in that list. If things go on in the right direction, we might have a new bidding process to have new clubs in the I-League.”
If KD babu is there fans can rest assured of no more than a 10 team ileague....eventhough by getting the goan giants back we can have a mouth watering 14 team league & fed cup
Some days ago, he said why bidding for i-league as nobody is leaving. Now he wants bidding. So Dato Windsor will keep rubbishing their ludicrous suggestions. No slot for isl winner as i-league is top league, super league not possible and now knockout cup also can't be given slot!!!! Back to drawing board again.
Super Cup can probably get an AFC Cup spot. A domestic cup can also have Champions League qualification but I assume only if the league gets one as well (as in, you have 2 ACL slots at least, in this case, India has 1)
