Subroto duttas interview " ISL will be 11 team league from 2017 ...MB EB and BFC to be added...no relegation in ISL...only those who can spend 40 cr a year can take part .
the other teams in I league will be part of a separate league where there will be pro rel
ISL teams will qualify for AFC tournaments ...and all 11 ISL teams have to fullfill afc criteria. Foreigners to be reduced from 6 to 4...This is the blueprint at the moment. Nothing official yet "

If everything goes according to plan, we are heading the MLS/A league way :)

  • Seriously, reducing the foreigners from 6 to 4 will have a drastic effect on the quality of play!! I am wondering how will people react to it.

Depends on the quality of foreigners these teams sign and of course the Indians. The league will last 5-5.5 months, so I think its possible to get very good foreigners. It will be a closed league , so teams might invest heavily as well. Anyway, this is  just the blueprint

Who the hell is subrato dutta plz.....if it is Dhar then its better to discount it. IFN probably gets news before imgr tell him anything No national league should be a rich mans pvt club. If a club can make a competitive team in 2cr and has passionate fans and good academies and management, it bloody well has the right to play the national lg without paying hafta money to IMGR

I'm pretty sure such a proposed league in this shape won't stand the court of law in India.

Well coming back to reality...Football is a money game, The days of utopia where an any team has a chance to win honours is over. Hell even Leicester had to spend 40 mill in the hope of avoiding relegation and even they are surprised they are league leaders.
Having teams which can only afford 40 crore budgets will ensure -

A.) Teams dont compromise on quality of staff and amenities to be part of the merged league, You can still hope to have a Marco, Zico type coaches for a 5-6 month league.

B.) 4-5 foriegners contracted are good enough in quality and more importantly they wont come cheap for a longer contract in India.

C.) Only serious stakeholders who can afford to invest and stay the long innings are bought in as franchise owners. No more flash in the pan like royal wahingdoh, Bharat who are there one season and then dont be the next.

I know its cruel and cold to smaller clubs, But hey that the business of football. You got to have money to be playing the big leagues or you have got to be god damn talented if you dont have money.

    1) 40 crore per year spending budget for each ISL Team???

    2) Other teams in 2nd Division with Pro / Relegation? This is confusing. Where will teams from 2nd Division be promoted to? There is no Relegation in ISL.

    3) Which FIFA or AFC Rule says that 40 crore should be spent as Budget otherwise team cannot play? These Franchises are struggling to make Profit with Budget of 20 Crores. How will they double the Budget to 40 Crores. That too when number of Foreign players will be reduced.
