@atuljg ; The contract was signed in 2008-2009. Why they started construction so late? To escalate the price of the project? Thats the one reason alone why I am against PPP projects. Delay and escalate the price so that more taxpayer money is wasted into corrupt businessman pocket. It is easy to make allegations. Like this fraud
@munna219777 Agree fully. I guess I was looking at this from the wrong perspective but overall you make sense on the whole demolish stadium/make a new one thing.
If any high profile event is organised -National games, SAF Games, Asian/Commonwealth Games then funds come from Center and states do it as money flows. Cooperage Stadium got FIFA funding. Almost all the stadiums where ISL or I-League is organised have benefited from some big Sporting event in the past. Hopefully one day Calcutta will get a chance to host something. Otherwise only incentive is cut money and delays.
Basically what I think as well. Small chance that it will ever be a football-only stadium but does not mean it can never be a top-class athletics stadium.
Would love if we were to ever get something like the national stadium in Singapore.
@munna Contract signing doesn't mean they got the land and all clearances. You can't blame Transtadia if the Govt of Gujarat didn't give the land till 2013. It's the government who caused the delay in Ahmedabad, not Transtadia. To their credit, they started the construction in 2013 itself within a few months when they got land.
Also, Atleast 1.5 years would be needed to get an Environment clearance from central government which I know as Trivandrum stadium had to obtain that.
With all the clearances required nowadays, munna is right that demolishing and rebuilding is the better option now.
Important to note is the travel subsidy of 20 thousand dollars for every away game plus free 5 star hotel, food, local transportation while travelling. Clubs keep revenue from tickets sale. In ACL, there is performance bonus for each win or draw.
I hope that AFC send all subsidy for Bengaluru FC to AIFF and AIFF should keep that money and adjust against outstanding bills of 7.50 crore rupees which Bengaluru FC owes to AIFF for Direct entry Corporate slot.
