Non invitational tournaments which have qualification norms are always tough. Mohun Bagan & Bengaluru FC are the 2 best teams in India. Expect both to cross the Group hurdle at least.
All the best to Mohun Bagan & BFC for their AFC Cup matches.
What about Kanchenjunga? Is it not AFC-compliant as well?
It is beyond regret (in fact hilarious) that so-called "Mecca of Indian Football" has only ONE stadium in the whole state that is approved by AFC. For this, the office-bearers of Football there should be hanged.
No wonder their best club loses by tennis score in an international match.
Guwahati was Bagan's 2nd choice after Barasat...They didnt ask for Siliguri or Howrah..Those would have failed probably also..Guwahati is ready thanks to ISL
Yeah, but my question was if Kanchenjonga is AFC approved or not. It has had staged international matches in the past, so it must be. And reaching there from Kolkata is relatively straightforward for the fans.
I guess Siliguri has more EB supporters and the fan base of MB is not great. Also, in Kolkata/WB , people are interested abt MB/EB match only - hence we saw around 10-12K crowd against Rovers. Dont think people would have travelled all the way Siliguri to watch MB.
On the contrary, the craze for football is more pronounced in NE these days, irrespective of whether it is MB/EB. They would certainly come to support an Indian team and hence the choice probably.

But Guwahati is famous for not Ready at the last moment.
Much Much better than barasat, painful trip for the fans though
