@gaffertape Didn't you tell us a year or two ago about how Uttam Rai was told to reject the Chicago Fire or something cause Colm Toal said it would be best he stay at the AIFF Elite Academy?
1st he was warned by Colm Toal to reject Kashiwa Reysol Then an MLS youth team
Myron, Sajid and 1 other also had an offer from University in Southern Florida according to the then AIFF coach Bitan Singh
But the genius AIFF guys brought them home...and instead of returning in the 2 months to the US... they were stranded in India for 4 to 6 months .. So they never made full use of their time in the US
Eh, don't see the correlation really. Personally, I look at the ISL as a purely Reliance Industries project with IMG just helping out with marketing and stuff. IMG, at least from what I see from their work globally, including with MLS, has never done anything wrong.
I fully endorse your view. It is lack of structure and opportunity that malls a player more and current scenario, there is very less scope of proper youth development. If you are lucky you will get picked up at some club, and even then not sure whether you get playing time.
No youth leagues, no reserve leagues, forget all that- no full year proper Profession League, no of clubs diminishing day by day pulling down scope of newer players.. All of these go against proper player nurturing..
And really, atleast I am not 100% convinced that some of these players are not that good only because they haven't picked up any club..How much scouting anyway happens? and how much playing time these player gets to showcase their talents ? I don't think any club scouts nowadays are interested in watching exhibition matches, that too players in an academy playing some insignificant matches.
If we have lost out on these players, its not fault of the academies, but its basically fault of our domestic football structure. Ans unless this resolves, we are not anywhere in having a good Asian level player.
How does Reliance Youth development add to the launch of ISL? People coming into the stadium don't come because ISL has a youth team. No correlation, They just want to tick a few boxes for grassroot development and leveage existing IMG facilities.
If a few kids do come out better only Indian football gains.
The correlation is this: IMG was softening the ground (in collaboration with their Indian arm IMG-R) to create a good image of themselves before picking up (or hijacking) the top tier of Indian club football, by conducting an one-off camp (albeit prolonged). So that when they take over, there would be least resistance. It was their investment for ISL.
Once the main main thing is launched, the camp-samp was ditched. For U17WC, AIFF had to fend for themselves.
