London Olympic bronze medallist Mary Kom (51kg) moved one step closer to qualifying for the mega quadrennial Games for a second time with a powerful performance in her opening bout at the Asian/Oceanian Olympic Qualifiers in Amman, Jordan on Sunday.
The six-time world champion, seeded second at this event, hardly put a foot wrong and sailed away to a commanding 5-0 victory over Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Tasmyn Benny of New Zealand on her way to the quarter-finals, where she will face Irish Magno of Philippines.
With Mary Kom’s win, 11 Indian boxers have now entered the quarter-finals at this tournament.
11 out of 13 of our boxer's have made it to the Quarter-Finals.
A win,now for everyone will secure them a ticket to Tokyo.
A loss, will mean end of the road for all those boxer's whose categories have 4 places whereas there will be a box-off in all those categories where the limit is assigned for 5 and 6 places.
So , number of boxers qualified has already jumped over as compared to 2016 , 4 years ago there were 3 boxers who qualified for olympics , now there are 4 of them already and numbers will still increase , i suppose to 8 , i am really really impressed 👏👏
SATISH KUMAR also books his spot to the Tokyo Olympics.
So,5 out of the 6 Boxers in action today have booked their places and the 6th one in my opinion has 95% chance of booking his place in the Olympics too through Box-off.Great day for India.
5 of our remaining Boxers will be trying to book their places to Tokyo tomorrow. All of them can book their places. Let's see what happens.
