“We will never ever use the travelling as an excuse. Jamshedpur has a secret airport. We don't tell anyone about it. We are the only people who use it!”
Indian superstar Salman Khan might have got the opening ceremony of Indian Super League (ISL) off to a brilliant start, but clouds are hanging over one of the upcoming events featuring him at the Jawahar Lal Nehru stadium in December.
According to a report in The Times of India, after Sports Authority of India (SAI) rented out Capital's showpiece sporting facility for Rs one crore to an event management firm to host an entertainment night. Delhi Dynamos, who are scheduled to play all their home matches at this stadium, have raised an objection saying it might destroy the newly-laid grass.
The Nita Ambani-owned Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL), the organisers of ISL, its pitch management arm ProPitch and Dynamos have expressed concerns about the damage which can be caused on the turf due to the event.
"Ryegrass will be no more than one month old at the time of the proposed concert. Ryegrass takes approximately six weeks to establish and until this period has passed the plant is susceptible to irretrievable damage. Having such a big event planned at this time will have a detrimental effect and any heavy usage could potentially kill off the plant," Pro-Pitch told SAI.
In its reply, SAI told the newspaper that no damage will be done to the turf – which has a thick slab of synthetic material to protect the grass.
However, SAI sources say that no damage will be caused to the field of play. "We have been told by the organisers that they would be getting ArmorDeck (used as turf covering) from Mumbai. This is a thick slab of synthetic material to safeguard the grass. It has to be seen how many precautions organisers take," an SAI official reacted.
Dynamos are scheduled to play their first two matches at the JLN stadium on December 2 and 6, followed by the next match to be played on December 16.
How many people can sit in that secret airplane at secret Airport? 5 or 6? It will take them 20 sorties and 2 days to transport 2 teams to Jamshedpur from Calcutta.
