whatever it is it is always a shame when you cannot participate in a team sport in Asian games or Olympics. Winning medals cannot be the only criteria. If that is the case, then in Olympics India should not send more than 5-10 athletes. It is these kind of lack in visions which hardstops Indian Sports in general.
Asian Games 2018: Indian Olympic Association clears 514 athletes; contingent likely to be smaller than 2014
The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has cleared 514 athletes for the upcoming Asian Games but the contingent is likely to be smaller than the last edition in Incheon, where 541 Indian players competed.
The IOA is expected to release the list tomorrow but there is a possibility that a few more names could be added to the list. "We have approved approximately 514 athletes and we are working out the final list," an IOA official told PTI.
"There is possibility that a few more are added tomorrow before the final list is out. But in all probability the number will be less than the last edition," the official added. The IOA had fixed 30 June deadline to all the National Sports Federations to send their final list.
This time, the IOA had set strict criteria to clear the country's participants — top six performance of the last Asian Games in individual events and top eight in team events. This led to teams like football and handball to be left out.
Athletics, which sends the largest contingent, will have just 53 competitors despite the Asian Games organisers allotting 102 quota places to India.
the Asian Games, or for that matter, Commonwealth Games (in some
disciplines) and Olympic Games, is not the platform on which Indian
players must only gain competitive experience. The respective National
Federations must work towards getting their athletes competition in
continental tournaments and elsewhere.
Sports Ministry Directive which led to ouster of Indian Football Team.
What stupid argument is this? Then no one should go to these events. There are always other competitions. Keeping in view the Asian cup and the number of U23s in India squad, football team should have been allowed. Period
