Eight new sports disciplines have been added where the country has shown promise. They are Karate, Kurash, Pencak Silat, Roller Skating, Sambo, Sepaktakraw, Triathlon and Soft Tennis.

The other disciplines where India will take part in are Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Boxing, Bowling, Canoe-Kayak (Sprint), Canoe-Kayak (Slalom), Cycling, Equestrian, Fencing, Gymnastics, Golf, Handball, Hockey, Judo, Kabaddi, Karate, Kurash, Pencak Silat,
Roller Skating, Rowing, Sailing, Sambo, Sepaktakraw, Shooting, Squash, Aquatics - Swimming, Aquatics - Diving, Tennis, Taekwondo, Triathlon, Soft Tennis, Table Tennis, Volleyball, Weightlifting, Wrestling and Wushu.

Are they serious about medal hopes in Basketball or Judo/Wushu/Karate ??

"The contingent has been selected keeping in mind the Indian Olympic Association's long term vision of preparing and encouraging the most deserving athletes for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics based on them attaining qualification criteria," said IOA secretary general Rajeev Mehta.

This statement looks even more stupid as many of these disciplines are not there in Olympics,

Their results in qualifiers against Syria, lebanon and in Commonwealth Games have been disappointing. We do see some names in NBA but they are on that platform on merit or for interest amongst Indian TV audience - I am not sure. Those NBA fellows have struggled to improve National Team for sure.

Honestly I dont see AIFF making its case any stronger, you cant just waltz and in expect the doors to be open for you. also senior team cannot be the criteria for performance of u-23 team, you want exposure use SAFF, nobody stopped you from arranging friendlies. I also cant help but wonder what would have been the situation if Asian games were held during ISL period.
