Vikram Chandra is a big time idiot !!!
Different countries push their sport into the Asian Games when they are the hosts.
Taikawando is part of Asian Games since 1986 when Seoul hosted it. India has been participating in it for 3 decades now. Only once they have managed a Bronze medal in 2002.
Wushu is also a long established sport since 1990 Beijing Asiad.. India has managed 3 medals in 2002 and 2006. despite 3 decades of participation.
It will take a generation to develop in a new sport and win medals when first batch of players get international exposure, retire and become coach themselves. Hopefully 2018 asian games will be a new beginning for Wushu and we will build on that.
Sepak Takraw is also a regular at National Games for India.
It will take some time before we start winning in Penkac Silat.

Guys, like Vikram Chandra, are big idiots just like Munna has said.

The focus should be on the Olympic Sports Period!!

Most of these sports are not even Olympic Sports. Who will invest in the infrastructure for non-Olympic sports, about which the population has got no idea? Completely idiotic statement to say the least.

One may argue that sports like Kabaddi, Squash etc are non-Olympic sports as well but counter to that is that
Indian population has got more than significant understanding about these sports and youngsters want to play it and even see it on TV especially as far as Kabbaddi is concerned.

So, in my humble opinion, this statement very is very naive and has got no meaning to it.

Disappointing show in Archery and Gymnastics so far by India where big names like Deepika Kumari and Dipa Karmakar were participating.

In Tennis too, absence of Sania Mirza has hurt us badly. She used to bring medals in Women's singles, Doubles and mixed doubles.

In Greco-Roman Wrestling, our pathetic Sports Ministry refused to recruit Foreign Coach and that has hurt India preparation very badly. Not even Bronze in greco-Roman despite our federation pleading for months.

Shooting and Wrestling has done India proud so far. 4 Gold Medals in 4 days. Athletics, Kabaddi, Tennis, Hockey Boxing can bring more Gold Medals. Any figure over 10 Gold Medals will be a good performance.

We should focus on sports where its less competitive initially and then go from there

Munna(Bro),I am sorry to say but you are considerably underestimating the strength of our contingent.

First of all,Archery events have not even started yet. The events were purely for seeding purpose. The event will be starting from tomorrow. However,I agree with you that Deepika Kumari is not among the favourites.

We have better chances in Compound Event.

Sania Mirza's presence might hurt us in mixed doubles only as she was not a contender for Women's doubles(other partner not being good enough).

I personally feel we have a genuine chance of winning around 18-20 Gold Medals.

We are already on 4 Golds,Shooting is still on.

Perhaps a gold or two still a possibility in Shooting.

2 each in Kabaddi and Hockey is a genuine possibility making it 4.

1-2 in Boxing (Women's side more chance).

1-2 in Rowing is also a possibility.

6-8 in Athletics is a possibility. It can be more also if we are lucky.

2-3 in Squash is also a possibility.

1-2 in Lawn Tennis is a possibility.

1 in Badminton cant be ruled out.

1-2 in  Archery, specially Compound Archery.

I am personally expecting 15-20 Golds.

@munna219777 Although Pencak Silat which is an Indonesian martial art is a comparatively new sport for India, we have done well in the recent Asian level Championships in the sport. As the level of competition in Asian Championships and Asian Games is almost same there were good chances of winning medals here in this sport. Initially contingent of 20+ was cleared for Pencak Silat which IOA pruned down to 3 for just 2 categories.
