Update:
A few of us have left Srinagar in different groups, to Chennai,
Bangalore and Mumbai on the flights available. More 11 members of GKFC
are still in Srinagar. We expect the whole team to arrive in Calicut in
two days.
Chennai City FC take on Manipuri side Neroca FC in a return leg fixture on
Monday, February 11, 2019 which will begin their final push towards the
maiden National league triumph in their short four year history.
It is significant that though Shillong Lajong seem to be the prime candidate for relegation, three of their players--Phrangki Buam, Samuel Kynshi and Naorem Mahesh Singh with 4 goals are the joint second-highest Indian goalscorers of the I-League. It shows that they have a lot of quality in their side, but their lopsided policy of fielding an all-Indian squad and playing mostly with junior players have massively backfired. It is good to give importance to youth and local talent but they should have also ensured that they remained competitive in the league.
