What's making me dance in glee is that it will widen the talent pool as more and more well to do folks will be willing to take it up professionally like it was the case before and during the eighties. Once higher than average IQ comes in, the personal skill level is bound to increase and we all will be entertained with some breath taking display of skills like it was the case in the eighties. How can I forget Krishanu Dey, Bidesh Bose, Ulganathan, Balaram, Shabbir Ali...........and the list continues.

… and you missed out Surajit Bhattacharya, Manas Bhattacharya, Xaviar Pius, Shyamal Banerjee, Shyam Thapa, Goutam Sarkar, Tarun Bose …
Oh, how I miss the eighties! If, just if PLS can bring back a part of that euphoria!!
I am so excited about PLS. Oh divine, please wipe those idiots who are trying to scuttle it from the face of this earth. I want to see some skill back in Indian football before I die, I pray with folded hands that my prayers be answered.
New Delhi: In a huge setback for the Indian Football Association (IFA) backed Premier League Soccer (PLS), All India Football Federation (AIFF) on Thursday advised Fifa to temporarily suspend the six PLS clubs from Transfer Matching System (TMS), which allows a club to recruit foreign players.
Under the Fifa rule, no club in the world can recruit a professional foreign footballer, whether registered or unregistered with another club, without going through the TMS system.
Once certified by the national association as a genuine organisation, Fifa provides each club a separate password to enter into the TMS system.
According to AIFF sources, the passwords, which were earlier provided to the six PLS clubs, were withdrawn after IFA failed to submit necessary documents related to the affiliation of these clubs with the Bengal body.
The AIFF, sources said, was directed by Fifa to send them all these documents.
The PLS clubs, who have already pledged big money for fielding famous names like Fabio Cannavaro, Hernan Crespo, Robbie Fowler, Jay-Jay Okocha and Juan Pablo Sorin, would now be in no position to finalise contracts with these players.
What has put the league in a spot of more bother is the change of names of clubs as per the wishes of the franchisee partners. Fifa is believed to have asked the AIFF to enquire how the names of registered clubs could be changed overnight.
“However, suspension of the PLS clubs from the TMS system would immediately be revoked if IFA submits documents substantiating affiliation of these clubs,” an AIFF official said.
“A few days back, we had written to IFA secretary Utpal Ganguli requesting him to send the documents but till date we have received nothing.”
Initially, all the six clubs, then named by the IFA as FC Kolkata, Barasat United, Howrah Wizards, Haldia Heroes, FC South Bengal and North Bengal United on January 6, were provided with international transfer passwords by the AIFF. They were even allowed to take part in the TMS seminar in New Delhi on January 12 on verbal assurance from IFA.
A nice spanner in the works. Viva Indian football!
PLS is probably becoming history, after making history. At least, the franchisee names were better originally.

I would never say its becoming history. We all knew that these big players would leave sooner or later and that PLS will always just be a state league in West Bengal. Plus even if these guys stay how will that help. Robert Peres had many knee injuries last season, same with Fabio (knee ended his career) and some of these icon players have not even played football in years. Sure they would still be better than amateur Indians but they would still stink.
AIFF to withdraw permission for holding Premier League Soccer
NEW DELHI: The much-anticipated IPL-style Premier League Soccer (PLS) may reach a dead end, with the AIFF set to withdraw the permission of conducting the tournament during its all-powerful Emergency Committee meeting on Monday.
The tournament, proposed to be held from March 24-May 6 in Bengal under the aegis of Indian Football Association, had run into rough weather after the AIFF asked world body FIFA to temporarily suspend the six PLS clubs from Transfer Matching System (TMS), which allows a club to recruit foreign players.
Under FIFA Rules, no club in the world can recruit a professional foreign footballer without going through the TMS. Once certified by the national association as a genuine organisation, FIFA provides each club a separate password to enter into the TMS.
The passwords, which were earlier provided to the six PLS clubs, were withdrawn after IFA failed to submit necessary documents related to the affiliation of these clubs with it.
Time is running out for the transfer of the likes of Fabio Cannavaro, Hernan Crespo, Robbie Fowler, Jay-Jay Okocha and Juan Pablo Sorin as February 15 is the FIFA international transfer deadline. IFA will have to provide before February 15 the necessary documents to the AIFF through which they will be sent to the world body.
IFA Secretary Utpal Ganguly, however, said that the necessary documents would be provided by Monday morning before the AIFF Emergency Committee meeting starts.
"All the documents will reach the AIFF on Monday before the Emergency Committee meeting begins. The players will get clearance before the FIFA international transfer deadline," Ganguly said from Kolkata.
Asked how the documents would be ready before the names of the new PLS clubs are being approved by the IFA General Body which is expected to meet on February 14 or 15, Ganguly said, "I can't explain the technicalities but all the documents will reach the AIFF in time."
"We have told the IFA to provide the documents in time but time is running out. For the tournament to be held, FIFA will have to give clearance of the foreign players by February 15. We have not received from IFA the necessary documents of the six clubs till now," a top AIFF official said.
"Tomorrow is Sunday and if AIFF does not get the documents by Monday (Feb 13) when the Emergency Committee meets, the permission given to IFA to hold the tournament will be withdrawn," he added.
The Emergency Committee comprises AIFF president, five vice-presidents and the general secretary.
The crux of the problem lies in the change of names of clubs as per the wishes of the franchisee partners and FIFA is believed to have asked the AIFF to furnish details about how the names of registered clubs could be changed overnight.
Sources said that some of the fifth and nursery division clubs of the IFA have been changed to the six PLS sides which will have to be approved by the Governing Body of the Bengal body.
Southfolk Club is expected to become Euro Musketeers, Illysium Club to be rechristened as Howrah Manchester, Evergreen Club becoming Siliguri Bengal Tuskers, Kasba Samanyay to be changed to Haldia Heroes, Central Calcutta Veterans Club set to be changed to Kolkata Chameleons while Duttabagan Satadal taking the name Durgapur franchise.

Hopefully this will make the IFA rethink this league and start using it as a real state league thats main intention is to develop youngsters. Past Prime Stars was never going to change anything. Also only 2 clubs would have gotten high attendance anyway.

IFA’s effort to rename clubs in lower divisions and associate them Premier League Soccer took a hit on Saturday as it was learnt that this process involves a lot time and it was not possible to complete the process before scheduled start of PLS. Instead of renaming lower division clubs in Kolkata, IFA is now trying to associate clubs in respective districts with respective franchisees. Under such circumstances clubs in districts are demaning large amounts to be associated with a franchisee. Meanwhile, a meeting has been convened in AIFF headquarters in Delhi on Monday to clear up the situation regarding PLS. As it stands now, the start of PLS still remains shrounded in uncertainty.
